Chapter 6Maura found she quite liked Jessica Michaels. Not only did she have great fashion sense, but the forensic examiner was pleased and impressed to hear, at the age of only thirty-three, she was a successful Human Rights lawyer. Maura found herself inwardly saluting Cameron Fraser’s taste in dates. When Alexander came up with their drinks, he made some joke about the pronunciation of actus reus, making the two women laugh. Maura turned to find Cameron chatting with Marcelle and made to go join the conversation before the young artist’s face drained of all color and she looked, for lack of a better word, devastated. Marcelle was looking upon her daughter with sad but knowing eyes as Cameron gently caressed her cheek before striding purposefully out of the room. Jessica and Alexander
