25 Even though every muscle in my body hurt, I couldn’t fall asleep. I tossed and turned in bed for hours until I gave up. Mumbling some nonsense about needing to rest, I shot up from bed and put on a heavy jacket over my pajamas, beanie, gloves, and boots with fleece interior. I stepped out onto the porch and two warriors stepped out from the shadows—Leander and Lash. I sighed, wishing they stayed out of my sight so I could pretend I was alone and free. Doing my best to ignore them, I stepped out onto the street, thankful most of the paths had been shoveled and now there were only little mounds of snow accumulated against the walls.
