KATHERINE POV The water was scalding hot, but it still didn’t feel like enough. I scrubbed harder—my arms, my neck, the backs of my knees, like I was trying to erase last night. Or maybe brand it in deeper, I wasn’t sure. The scent of them clung to me. Musky, wild, each of them distinct, braided into my skin like smoke and fire and something old and familiar. And I hated how much I liked it. I leaned into the water, letting it hit the back of my neck, and squeezed my eyes shut.
