Chapter 5

1143 Words
ANDY’s POV I sat in stunned silence, my mind reeling from Corinne's revelation as I kept tapping her back just like a toddler. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. An arranged marriage? Fleeing from home? It all sounded like something out of a movie. As I stared at her hair, I couldn't see her face because she was backing me, while I was busy consoling her. Now, I believe the saying “Don't judge a book by its cover.” She wasn't just some crazy person who had lied to me and against me, she was just a desperate lady who knew what she wanted. I couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy for her. She had been forced into a situation that she didn't want, and she had taken drastic measures to escape. I could understand why she would do something like that. I would have done the same if I was in her shoes. I totally understood her predicament. No wonder she was crazy for hours, she just needed refuge and some space. “Do… Do you mind going in now?” I finally broke the silence since she revealed her situation to me. “Do you mind going in now?” I asked again, more edible this time because I couldn't hear any sound from her. It turned out to be the same result. I was shocked when I pulled her face to myself, only to discover she dozed off already. “Corinne? Corinne? Did you really doze off?”. I found myself asking the sleeping Corinne. As I held her in my arms, I couldn't help but steal glances at her peaceful face. Who would have believed she once behaved like a psycho? She was sleeping soundly, her chest rising and falling with each gentle breath. I was struck by how beautiful she looked, even at rest. Her features were delicate, yet strong, and her skin was radiant, just like a barbie's complexion. Her dark long hair curling down her back, and her lips were parted slightly, inviting me to lean in closer. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down from trying rubbish to the poor lady who just trusted me with her predicament. I carried her straight away, clueless of where to drop her, if it was the master bedroom or my room for now. I remembered we were never on good terms, she just told me her situation so she would be allowed to stay in the apartment. I had no other choice but to take her to the master bedroom for now. I just prayed she wouldn't snatch the room from me, I had been eyeing it for a while not knowing I was going to have an unknown roommate out of the blue. I dropped her on the master bed and used the duvet to cover her, before dashing out of the room. I took a glimpse of her for a few seconds before leaving the room. As I stepped out of the room, I was immediately struck by the sight of her belongings scattered all over the floor. Her suitcase was open, with clothes spilling out of it, and her backpack was lying next to it, unzipped and messy. Without thinking, I found myself walking over to her belongings and starting to pick them up. I folded her clothes and put them back in her suitcase, zipped up her backpack, and generally tried to tidy up the mess. When I finished tidying up the mess, I carried her suitcase and backpack with me to my room and kept it for till till she woke up. I walked back to the sitting room to have a good and refreshing night after dealing with a long day alongside Corinne. I was about to lit up the room and pour myself a cup of wine when I heard some murmurs. “Is she awake?” I asked myself, and turned my gaze to the Master bedroom's side but I didn't see anyone. I decided to stand, to go check myself. “Hey? Are you awake?” I asked, after knocking for the second time. “Yes, I'm awake. Give me some minutes.” I heard her response from inside. I felt relieved, I didn't know the reason behind the relief but all I knew was that I felt relieved she was okay and awake. I was about to pour myself a cup of wine again when I heard her voice and her footsteps descending. “Taking wine without me?” She asked and collected the bottle from me, and poured the content into the cup before gulping it at once. “What?? Are you.. Are you thirsty?” I asked shockingly, glaring at her but she dashed me no look. Instead, she poured another content into the cup and took it again. “I love the taste. Where did you get it? I need one for myself.” She finally talked, sitting beside me. I exchanged a short glance with her, before picking up the cup, pouring myself one also. “Remember you are broke. You have nothing left in that card. It's just a camouflage for now.” I answered, staring at her and her expression changed instantly. “What do you mean I'm broke?” She asked and snatched the cup from me, before pouring herself another. “You'll get tipsy at this point.” I said, ignoring her question and tried to take the cup from her forcefully, but she was extremely strong. “What are you doing?!!” She yelled, and gulped the content into her throat immediately. “The room I was in.. I love the room, that should be my room. You have yours too right?” She asked, smiling tipsily. “What? What room? That room is mine!!” I exclaimed and slapped her cheek to bring her back from her tipsy life. “I heard you guy! You didn't have to do that! The room belongs to me now. Do your worst!” She said and stood abruptly, walking away but she stopped midway instantly. “My.. My bags.. where are they?” She asked, her gaze fixed on me, her eyes tiny. I knew she was already drunk at that moment, I just needed to help her with her bags to the room. “You came in today and decided to cheat me. The blue light in the room is actually the best. You can take it but I doubt you can stay here with me without getting into trouble.” I said and helped her into her room before taking the bags inside. “We shall see! You can't deal with me either!” She echoed and the next thing I could hear was laughter. Is she really laughing in her sleep?...
