Chapter 10

Serena sat in absolute silence after Logan finished his tale. She was shocked beyond words. She couldn't believe the pain her parents went through just to keep her safe. She looked into his eyes and knew instantly that he was telling the truth. She thought of her mother, imagining how the poor woman felt when she woke up and found her daughter gone. "What happened when mom woke up?" She asked softly. "She was hysterical. She didn't eat for a week. All she wanted was you. It took me a long time to persuade her that it was the only way to protect you from the black witches." Logan answered truthfully. "She finally relented and focused on taking care of your brother. She prayed to the moon goddess each day to keep you safe. I almost lost her after you were taken away." Tears brimmed in her eyes and she slowly wiped them away. "I'm sorry." She whispered. "Sorry for causing so much pain for you and mom. Sorry for being the cause of the death of my foster parents..." She couldn't hold herself and she burst into tears. Logan got up and took her into his arms. "You have nothing to be sorry about, Serena. None of this is your fault. We don't decide for fate." He stroked her hair softly. "Now you understand why you have to come stay with your family. You belong with us. Your time in the human world is over. It's time to be with your people, your kind." Serena nodded. She wiped her eyes, thinking about her friends. She had to keep the secret from them. They couldn't know about the supernatural realm. It was for their own safety. She released Logan and looked up at him. "What happened when the dark witches came? Did they try to harm Xavier?" "They never came. The Sisters Of The Night covered their tracks excellently." Logan answered. "The black witches never knew you were alive. But as your power has been unleashed, they would find out. And they would come for you. We need to head to our realm now." Serena knew he was right. But what about her friends? She thought of Jayden and her tears resumed. She couldn't part with him. "What about my friends?" She asked. Logan knew it would come to this. He took a deep breath and held her face. "They can't know our kind exists. For their safety, and ours. I'm going to have to erase their memories of you." Serena shook her head vehemently. "No, you can't do that. They're the only important people in my life. I can't just forget about them." "This is the only way, Serena. You have to understand. I know it isn't easy, but you have to do it. You have a bigger responsibility to think about." Serena was devastated, torn between her family and her friends. Her friends had been the only good people in her life. But her family had made the greatest sacrifice to keep her safe. She couldn't let them down. She would miss them all, but she would miss Jayden more. Her feelings had started developing strongly and now she was going to part with him. She had to do it. "How will they forget about me?" "Everything will be taken care of." Logan answered. "All memories of you will be erased. And this house will be sold out. I wish I didn't have to do this, but you know how important it is." Serena nodded and wiped her tears. She was ready. ... She sat with her father in the limo as the driver drove them out of Toronto. She took one last look at her hometown and smiled. She didn't have any regrets. She had enjoyed her life in this human world. Now it was time to start a new life with her family and her kind. The only thing she regretted was not saying goodbye to her friends. Hopefully, they would cross paths again someday. And she would definitely never forget Jayden, her first love. She took a deep breath and tried to calm her racing heart. She was finally going home. Logan looked at his daughter from the corner of his eyes. There were so many things he didn't tell her. She had the dark aura, and that meant something ominous. He would have to discuss it with the Sisters Of The Night. Right now, he was just happy and relieved that his daughter was finally going to be with them. ... It took them two days before they got to the Michaelsons' Mansion. Serena alighted and stood awestruck. The mansion was huge. It was like a castle. Large mountains and a vast forest surrounded it, forming a strong border. Serena walked up to the large doors as the driver parked the limo into the garage. As she got close to the doors, they opened and Isabel rushed out in excitement. She pulled Serena into her arms in a tight hug, laughing and crying at the same time. Serena hugged her back and whispered, "Mom." Isabel's heart swelled with immense joy. She drew back and smiled at Serena. There were tears in her eyes. "Welcome home, darling." She whispered. Serena smiled back and leaned her head on Isabel's shoulder. When she looked up, she saw her twin, Xavier. His long hair was loose, and they drifted lazily in the soft breeze. He smiled at her and she grinned in return. She released her mom and went to embrace him. "Welcome home." He said. "I know how hard this was for you, but I promise you, you did the right thing. This is where you belong." "I know that now. I'm glad to be home." Xavier released her and took her hand. "I have so many things to share with you." He began, tugging her into the house. "I do too. Why don't you start by showing me where my room is. I didn't come with anything." "Everything you need is available. Mom went shopping yesterday." They laughed as they disappeared up the stairs, their voices fading off. Logan stood with Isabel at the entrance watching his children with a smile on his face. He looked down at Isabel and saw that she had tears in her eyes. "Our family is finally complete, darling." She whispered. "Yes. Finally." Logan agreed, resting his chin on her hair. "We will protect them, keep them safe, until they're strong enough to begin their training, and to prepare for the war with the dark witches."
