Getting back to the camp, I looked around. People were walking around, too occupied with themselves to pay attention to us. Although they probably know that we were missing for more than three months.
It was odd to be back. Mostly because the man I had indebted myself to had died six months prior. I sighed and a voice began to yell.
”BRISA I WILL CASTRATE YOU!” I let go of Bri’s hand and began to walk away.
”Tris, where the hell are you going?!” she shrieked. I turned around and pointed behind me without saying anything. She glared at me and I just gave her a goofy smile and turned around again.
Aeson was going to kick her ass.
I walked straight toward a very familiar sight. It was another cliff, but instead of a rushing river at its base, there was just a dense canopy of trees there. I sat at the edge, one leg brought up so I could rest my arm on my knee and the other dangling off the edge.
I closed my eyes and sighed contentedly, appreciating the time I had to relax, at least until Collins comes and curses my ear off.
A gentle breeze passes over me, ruffling my long red hair. A tendril of it came forward and I grabbed it. I looked at it for a while, old memories coming to the surface before I shook my head and pushed my hair back.
I had to stop thinking so hard, it isn't good for me.
My finger twitched and I knew that someone was coming for me. It was odd always knowing that someone was coming in your direction, but I've learned to make the best of it.
”You have so much explaining to do you bastard!” Collins growls at me from behind. I sigh dramatically and turn to face him.
”Alright then, lay it on me man. Do your worst.” I give him a sarcastic smirk and his eye begins to twitch. I laugh heartily and Darien appears through the trees.
”Oh no, I know where this is going. I’ll be in the tree if you need me.” He jumps up into the nearest tree, monkeying his way up to the highest branches. I cup my hands around my mouth and yell.
”Are you sure you're not a bobcat?” Collins pushes me.
”Don't change the subject asshole. You still have explaining to do.” I sigh dramatically.
“I already told you tha-“ Collins cuts me off.
”Cut the bullshit, I want you to explain how you got captured in the first place.” He crosses his arms and looks at me expectantly. My eyes widen and I look away from him.
”They were talking s**t, I wasn't going to stand by and let them do that..” Collins scoffs.
”So you wanted to get them to shut up. Tris, we've talked about this.” Collins pinches the bridge of his nose.
”I didn’t give a f**k, all that needed to happen was me getting them to shut up, and I did that. How the hell was I supposed to know that there were more coming, I wasn't ready for an ambush.” I crossed my arms. Collins gives me a look of pure disbelief and drops his arms a casual distance from his weapons.
”Ok, so I wanted to get captured, that was my plan, but I never intended for Bri to get caught up in it as well.” I look down dejectedly. ”She was supposed to be far away when I did that.” Collins comes closer.
”Tris, this isn't like you. You've been more and more off-balance since the leader, ” he pauses for a moment. ”Departed. I don't know how close you and the leader were, but what do know is that he wouldn't want you to mourn this way.” He puts his hand on my shoulder. I sigh heavily and sit back down in the cliff.
”Don't patronize me, Collins, it's not like death is new for me…” Darien jumps down from this perch in the tree and sits beside me.
”As much as I hate to admit it, Collins is right, and he isn't very often, ” Collins protests, a string of curses leaving his mouth. I laugh. ”But in all seriousness, I think you should go to his grave, maybe that’ll help.” I think about it for a moment, saying nothing.
”Maybe I will, ”
