Chapter 18: the past

-KADE-   

I wake up to her sweet scent invading my senses and the rise and fall of her chest as she sleeps. I gaze up at her as I prop myself up on my elbow. My God she's beautiful.

Last night was so perfect. Well except for that f*****g waiter. It took everything in me to not rip his throat out where he stood for looking at my mate like that. But I can forget about him.

I've kissed a lot of girls before but nothing even comes close to kissing my little one. It's like her lips are made for mine. And don't even get me started on seeing her naked. Her curves are so f*****g sexy I want to f**k her every time I see them. Dex agrees. He was fighting to take over last night but I wouldn't let him. I won't let him. We both want to mate with her so bad but I would never hurt her and I no Dex would feel bad too. So we'll wait. Even if it means blue balls and an angry wolf.

I feel her stir beneath me and watch her eyes flutter open and meet mine. 

"Good morning" she stretches sleepily before coming back and running her hands through my hair. 

"Morning princess" I smile. "Do you want breakfast?" I don't want to leave bed but I'm scared if we don't I'll do something I'll regret. She nods in response and I help her stand up before she walks to the door. 

"Wait little one" I look over her bare legs before turning to my wardrobe and pulling out a pair of joggers.

"Only I get to see you naked" I growl in her ear and smirk at the blush that forms on her cheeks. She puts them on and ties them at one side to make them fit her waist before we walk out hand in hand to the kitchen.

"Morning alpha, luna" an omega greats us and others follow as we wander into the kitchen, sitting at the table. We munch our way through pastries in record time. laughing about the night before.

"So what do you want to do today?" I ask, sipping my coffee.

"Don't you have work to do?"

"Yeah but it can wait. I'm all yours" I smile. The rogue situation is difficult but with Jake and Ben on the case there isn't a lot more we can do.

"Um... can we walk the pack territory?" She asks shyly and I smile. I want nothing more.

"Of course" I reply and we head upstairs to get ready.

-JASMINE POV- 

I decide on black sports leggings and a workout top under a hoodie. I pull my hair into a low messy bun and walk downstairs to meet Kade who looks particularly sexy in basketball short and a white teeshirt that gugs his torso tracing his abs underneath the material. He leans down to kiss me as I reach him and we walk out hand in hand.

Since I've been here Matt gave me a very brief tour but I've not had time to really appreciate the territory. As we walk around I'm taken back it's beauty. A stream runs right through the land, with little houses all along it. Kade tells me this is where most of the pack live and we pass a lot of families outside as we pass who all greet us enthusiastically. We're heading towards the training grounds when we suddenly turn left towards the tree line. Kade starts to remove his clothes which stops me in my tracks as i watch his muscles flex. I watch as he shakes for a minute before turning into a beautiful massive grey wolf. And I mean massive. He creeps towards me, bowing his head as I reach up to touch his beautiful fur. His big head leans into my touch before he looks me up and down signalling for me to shift to. 

I quickly take off my clothes and shift, pleased to let Sapphire out. We walk over to Kade's wolf Dex and nuzzle our head against his. Our wolves are obviously excited to be meeting wolf to wolf having been communicating through mind link this whole time. We tun and take off into the woods together. Dex is incredibly strong and agile just like he is in person but I can keep up with him if he doesn't run at full speed. He playfully splashes water at Sapphire as we glide over a stream and we growl playfully, nudging into him.

After a while We come out into a clearing with a beautiful lake and an old willow tree. Kade shifts back and walks over to me, hugging Sapphire's neck. We lean into his touch and shift back so I'm standing in his arms.

"You're wolf is amazing" he smiles down at me. 

"So is yours" Sapphire purrs in agreement as Kade kisses my forehead sweetly. 

"Come on" He guides me towards the willow tree and pulls out some clothes from a hollow in the tree. We dress and sit down at the base of the tree facing the lake.

"I used to come here all the time with my mom" he whispers. I look at him in surprise. He's never talked about any of his family before and I haven't met any of them in the pack house.

"Kade can I ask you something?"

"Anything princess" He squeezes me closer into his side.

"What happened to your family?" I meet his silver eyes hoping I haven't pushed too far.

"Well I was always best friends with my mom. She was amazing, kind of like you actually. And I had 4 siblings as well, a younger brother and two younger sisters and then a twin brother. But my dad was a bad man. He killed my mom one night in her sleep and any sanity he had left disappeared. He started going on random killing sprees and murdering pack members brutally. I couldn't just sit and watch so, I challenged him. I was 15 so he had to except the challenge and I won. I've been alpha ever since.

"When I won he went into a rage and... he killed my siblings. All of them, except Xander my twin. I wasn't there when he did it. He snuck past the guards while I was with another pack and I couldn't protect them. They were my responsibility and I couldn't protect them from... him". 

I reach up and wipe away the tears that are spilling out of his eyes. My heart breaks for him. He's been through so much pain and having to harbour that from such a young age, he's had to be so strong. I pull him into me and feel him inhale my scent as he nuzzles his face in my neck. 

"Kade your father was a bad man. Everything that happened is on him, not you. Your siblings would have known how brave you were standing up to him like that."  

He pulls away and stares at me with his beautiful stormy eyes before his lips crash onto mine, his hand cupping my face as our lips move against each other. We pull away for air, our foreheads pressing together. After a while Kade pulls away and brings me into his chest as we lean up against the willow tree.

"You're mum liked to bring you here then?" I whisper.

"Yeah. She was amazing. My dad treated her like dirt but she didn't care. She lived for us, her kids."

"She sounds amazing."

"She was."

We spend the next hours talking about his siblings and his mother and all the good things in his childhood and by the time we head back to the packhouse it's getting dark outside.

I feel closer to Kade somehow, like he was holding back a big part of himself before.

I smile up at him as we walk in hand in hand into the house, feeling happy to be by this amazing man's side.
