I watched the papers. Powerful interests kept kidnappings and robberies, when they were still robberies, out of the news, but the gossip columns spilled the beans. Shirley Seebold had returned and had instituted divorce proceedings against her billionaire husband. It was expected to be uncontested, and the settlement was rumoured to be substantial. Several hundred million dollars. Not bad for two years of marriage, and a non existent robbery. And blackmail.
