Gradually, I started settling back to reality, and began scanning the Internet for job adverts. I was good at driving and I enjoyed it, and I heard that there was good money in interstate heavy vehicle truck driving. I was considering all options. I hadn’t heard anything further from Denning, which was a relief. No more cards slipped under the door, and no more mock stabbings.
It was early afternoon when there was a knock on the door. My heart lurched when I looked through the peep-hole. It was Vera.
