Evelynn’s POV The night smelled like iron, fuel and smoke. I gripped the wheel tighter, my knuckles aching. The headlights carved a thin silver path through the dark as the car ate the miles. In the rearview mirror, the shape in my backseat didn’t move. Didn’t breathe. One of theirs - one of ours now - wrapped in leather and blood.
