Chapter 3

As I stood to go to Travis's office I felt slightly nauseous, what was I getting herself into? I should have just left the file i was looking for that night, had I not been in his office whoever took that picture wouldn't have taken it

Amelia walked mindlessly out of her office to the elevator, as the elevator beared the top floor she thought she might actually puke, the ding of the elevator brought her back to her senses, she drew her leg one after the other, she saw Andre waiting for her in front of the door when she walked out he nodded to her in greeting and ushered her in.

When she walked in Travis was on his feet, square like nerd glasses on one hand in his pocket, the other hand occupied with what she assumed was the printed contract, her mouth instantly felt dry, she swallowed hard.

"Sir" Andre said making him look up "Amelia, you're here" he droped the document on the table "sit" he says to her then nods towards Andre "you may leave" Andre nods turns around and walks towards the door, he waits for him to go before clearing his throat

"Sorry I stole your lunch break but this was important, here's the contract" he paused to slide the document across the table towards me

"You can go through it if you want"

I pick up the file quickly glancing through it ... Why's it so damn long, I flip the pages and see some of my rules in it, I skip most of it and go to the end "this contract is valid for 3 months" my eyes widen

"3months !!" I look up at him and he visibly flinches

"I just thought by then we would have had enough time to fake arguments and misunderstandings that would eventually lead to our breakup"

I stare at him in disbelief

"What ?" Travis asks and I almost feel like slapping him, how many of this has he actually done. I look at the paper in my hand one more time before collecting the pen he hands to me and signing where I'm supposed to.

When I'm done I hand the document back to him and prepare to leave when he stops me

"Uh, Amelia"

I stand still waiting for him to talk

"We.. have like..a board meeting to attend"

Why's he stuttering, I raise my eyebrows in confusion "I don't understand"

He sighs "we have to go to the board meeting together so I can properly introduce you as my fiancee"

Fuck no , I didn't think I would have to start immediately, I must look like I'm about to kill him because he quickly adds

"I didn't think you'd actually have to start to but they fixed the meeting and I have to agree, the board wants to know when I'll be releasing the statement about our engagement and they want you there to confirm if what I've been telling them is true"

Why's he explaining this much ?, whatever

"Fine, let's go"

He breathes out and quickly takes of his glasses, he walks around and I can see him searching my fingers for the marquis 4carat cut engagement ring he gave me, he sees it and possibly calms a little, as he opens the door and leads me out Andre sees us and immediately rushes to the elevator, he puts in the number and we enter

As we walk to the boardroom I feel like I'm going to s**t my pants, I've never felt this much nerves in one day, this month was definitely not my month

We step out of the elevator and into the boardroom, everybody was already seated. They all had stern faces and looked so serious, the big table was full of important looking people in suits. Some of them stared at us with no smile at all.

The air in the room felt really heavy, I could feel it on my chest. My heart kept pounding so hard I worried it might jump out, I kept thinking about how I got here. I thought about running but that was a bad idea because my legs felt weak I could hardly walk talk more running.

Travis places his hands on the small of my back as we approached the door, he guides me to a seat that he brings out for me. I sit and he takes the "CEO" seat beside me.

His hand on my back sent a strange warmth through me even thoulgh I did not want it to. It was all for show but it made my skin tingle I sat down fast hoping no one noticed how much I was shaking inside.

Immediately they sit he clears his throat and greets the board members like CEOs do. His voice was calm and strong. He started talking about the company updates first but then the questions came fast, it's like they couldn't even wait. They started bombarding him with questions regarding the engagement and when he was going to release the statement for newspapers and blogs.

Travis answered smoothly, of course he would, wasn't he already used to this ? He keeps talking and calling me his fiancee while answering a few of the questions. He said things like how happy they were and how the engagement was supposed to be secret because I wanted it so.

Oh boy was he good at this, meanwhile I on the other hand was sweating, the room felt too hot and even my hands were sweating under the table. I tried to keep a straight face but my heart was beating so loud I'm sure people on the last floor could hear it. Once or twice I felt more eyes on me. I could feel them judging me, wondering if I was good enough for their CEO or if I was just some intern who got lucky, oh God they probably thought I seduced him, I wanted to cry badly

One older board member with gray hair leaned forward and looked right at me. His eyes looked void and empty of all emotions, he stays like this for a whole second before asking

"Your name's Amelia right?" I nod unable to speak, that doesn't stop him tho... "what do you think about what's happening, I know you weren't prepared to go public yet but due to circumstances you have to, how do you feel?"

My nerves were so high I felt like I could not breathe, I was scared shitless, my mouth had gone dry again and the words would not come out easy. Everyone in the room turned to look at me waiting for me to talk. I could feel Travis beside me but I did not dare look at him, what was I supposed to say? My mind went blank and I felt the eyes on me like needles again. This was happening too fast. My chest got tighter. I opened my mouth but nothing came out at first, sweat was forming on my forehead and I felt sick to my stomach.
