Chapter 18: Colton's regret

1562 Words
Cindy had always been distant towards Lissie ever since she wedded his son, Colton. She never felt that Cindy was affectionate towards her. Colton's mother didn't give a damn when they were still in their process of marriage, yet Cindy's treatment toward Lissie left her utterly confused. Lissie can’t figure out if Cindy favors her or the other way around. Perhaps Cindy just doesn’t give a damn about her existence. Later on at the villa, she bumped into Louis. He was standing resolutely across Lissie. He absolutely waited for her arrival. Lissie heaved a sigh as the woman jumped on the couch. Her feet ache and the mixed emotions she bears all throughout meeting with the Vistagra’s lingers inside her heart. It bothers Lissie so much. “What are you looking at?” she inquired, hoisting her eyebrows whilst looking at Louis. He’s been carefully watching Lissie for minutes now! It annoys her. Louis took a deep breath and sat across from Lissie. “Nothing, I am just worried about you.” Louis thought that Lissie was over Colton and his family already. Curiosity hits him. If it’s revenge that she wants, why bother coming to their mansion? Louis has something for Lissie that he could not put into words but one thing is for sure. He cares for her. Colton was a huge walking red flag. If Lissie is caught in his net, then Lissie will fall again. “Do you know that the old man nearly passed when you left years ago?” Louis direct information stunned Lissie. She didn’t expect her disappearance will cause harm to the old man! A thousand knives pierced through her heart. She partly blames herself. He cost the old man his health and she believes that she doesn't deserve any affection from the Christian. Lissie has always been so warm when it comes to the old man. He's always there for her whenever she feels lonely, thinking the old man nearly died because of a heart attack made her heart sank. Christian doesn't deserve a granddaughter like her. “Hey,” Louis cheered me up. “Don't be sad or you'll ruin your mood the entire day.” He reminded Lissie to always smile and never let her emotions eat her. She took a deep breath and nodded. That's when Louis stood from his seat, following another topic. “I'll be out in a nightclub later on. Our friends are looking for you.” Lissie immediately shook her head and remained staring at her oats. “Nah, I'm good. You know it's not my thing, right?” “I know but they missed you.” “I’ll pass for now. Probably next time.” Both of them have a gap and huge differences. Louis is a party goer and a happy go lucky type. He has various friends and his large connection to nightclubs, fellow CEOs and business owners. Louis grew up in a rich family and basically, his environment was far from what Lissie desires. Meanwhile, Lissie is the type of person who dislikes the crowd, and prefers being alone rather than socializing. It was never her cup of tea. She would spend her free time reading a book, improving herself, working in a quiet yet cozy coffee shop rather than spending her time for nothing but silliness. Their principles were far from each other, but the respect remained intact. When the night came, Lissie was about to sleep when the landline on the main hall suddenly rang. Who would call late this time? It's almost past 12 in the midnight and it's inappropriate to make a call at this hour! It's the biggest pet peeve Lissie has except if the call is important. “Good evening, Ma'am Lissie. It's Rogelio.” Her eyebrows arched when it's the guard downstairs. “Someone outside was banging the door and making a scene. I guess he's drunk. He's looking for you. Nearby house is already complaining.” She immediately swept off the curtains and saw that it's the gut-wrenching guy he hated. Stress began to be inflicted on Lissie's system. How come this person found where she lives? Damn it. “I'm going down. Make sure he stops banging the door. Have him under control.” Lissie immediately took her robe and came downstairs. Colton has always been a pain in the ass. He was drunk, and he has the guts on coming here late at night only to ensure talking to the girl he regretted letting go. She wasn't in the mood on entertaining Colton but rather to shoo him away because he's disturbing the whole subdivision! Colton smirked when he saw Lissie coming out. He immediately lit a cigarette and puffed it in the air whilst leaning on his sports car. “The f**k are you doing here?!” She couldn't contain her anger the moment she saw Colton's lunatic face. “It's late, Colton. For f**k’s sake!” He smirked, teasing Lissie. He liked how mad she is because it adds up to the tension he's feeling. No one could have ever made him have a b***r whenever she's looking at a person mad but only his ex-wife. “I know you're sharing the same room with Louis Brown. He's your husband.” Lissie's eyebrow arched. ‘How did he know? And what is it to him?’ she told her mind. “You’ve been with him for five years, huh?” Bitterness crept in his face. “Do you know what kind of man you dared to marry? You're falling to his trap, Lissie” Lissie crossed her arms on her chest level. She doesn't want to raise her voice because she knows she will be heard by their neighbors. As much as possible, she tried to control her voice no matter how annoyed she was at the moment. She should have been laying on her bed right now, doing her skin care whilst reading The 48 Laws of Power. Colton took out his phone and showed Lissie pictures of Louis in a club surrounded by vixens around him. He was drunk, partying with their friends, and had two girls in his arms. Her eyebrows arched. She took his phone and deleted those photos. It doesn't affect her after all but she's mad about him being a stalker. She thinks that Colton was just doing all of these just to prove something. He's trying to destroy Louis in her eyes but their bond was strong enough for Lissie not to think of anything. “I know him better than anyone.” Lissie coldly affirmed. “Are you seriously going to let this man taint your marriage with him, huh? He's surely f*****g those girls in his hands. Goodness, wake up!” Colton blurted out. A sarcastic chuckle came out of Lissie's mouth and spoke. “Oh, c'mon! You're just like him. How come you criticize Louis when you do it as well? Mind you, you're still married at that time! It screams how hypocritical you are, Colton.” He didn't like what he had heard. Colton's ears turned red and his hands turned into a fist. She badly wanted to punch Louis in the face when Colton soothed himself to prevent himself from making a scene. He craned his neck a little and took something inside his car. He opened the envelope and gave the paper to Lissie. She grabbed the paper with force whilst arching her eyebrows. ‘Divorce papers?!’ Lissie reacted in her mind. ‘Is he insane?’ “Break up with him and move back with me. Sign the divorce papers between you two, Lissie.” “In your dreams.” Colton's playful smile crept on his face and put his hands inside his pocket. “Why not? Because you won't get anything once you guys divorce?” “You don't know what you're talking about, Colton. He's more than what you are thinking off. He's far better than you.” She exclaimed with such confidence radiating from her. Lissie knew very well that she won't get compensation if she divorces Louis. However, it won't stop on that matter. She won't leave the house and Louis alone. She values Louis and their shared bond. “You'll get compensated, don't worry.” He affirmed with a cunning tone, desperate for a positive response. “I'll be expecting feedback tomorrow afternoon. I want the divorce paper signed as soon as possible.” Lissie didn't like how arrogant Colton acted. He's always like that and she's tired from it. Rather than feeding Colton's ego, Lissie made sure that Colton went home with a word-slapping face. “You don't dictate what I do. You're not my father, just my nobody ex-husband who's trying to pester me. God, you're ruining my night! Divorce papers? Over my dead body!” Lissie walked out. She came back inside the house and told the guards to shut the door and make sure that no dogs will come inside ever again. She made sure Colton heard that. She even emphasizes the word dog! Instead of feeling angry, Colton solely sighed. He didn't think that Lissie had that side. He perceived her as someone who's gentle and is always following his commands. Indeed, history changes the person overtime. Colton left that night with a heavy feeling and deep regret.
