Chapter 19: Spilled coffee

Both of them are sitting in the dining area. The two were busy eating their breakfast whilst silence crept in the whole room. Louis was making his coffee whilst Lissie was deeply ogling at the divorce paper Colton sent her last night.
‘God, Lissie. You're stressing yourself too much!’ Lissie affirmed in her mind whilst massaging both her temple, looking a bit tired and stressed.
“So what did you guys talk about last night?” Louis broke the silence eloping them.
Louis was intrigued. He may not say it directly but he's worried about Lissie. When Colton had already left, Rogelio, the guard, called Louis that someone was making a scene. He checked the CCTV himself when he went home and found out it was Colton all along.
Worried, Louis came home early, leaving the party and his friends behind only for him to find Lissie peacefully sleeping inside her bedroom. His heart was at peace seeing she doesn't have any scratches or burns. He's glad Colton did not force her doing extremities because if he does, Louis won't let it slide easily.
“He has no shame at all. It's annoying!” Lissie ranted early in the morning. “He even said that he will compensate me if I divorce you.”
Louis chuckled. “Calm down.”
She rolled her eyes in the air and took down the bread she's eating. Lissie took a deep breath and moved towards Louis the divorce papers.
Louis glanced at it and shrugged his shoulders off, leaning onto the chair and spoke. “Will you divorce me then?”
“Of course not!” She demanded.
“Then what's the point of keeping this piece of paper?”
She realized her mistake. He got some points though. Why would she keep it anyway? Of course she doesn't like the idea! Lissie was stupid for keeping and showing it to Louis.
Out of shame and anger, Lissie tore the paper away and crumpled it. She threw it in the trash bin but it didn't fall into place. Seeing her reaction made Louis chuckle. He rubbed his eyes whilst there's a hint of fun in his face, making Lissie glanced at him with her eyebrows shot.
“What are you laughing at?” She sarcastically affirmed toward Louis. “It's my mistake to keep that piece of paper. I know!”
“Your reaction is just funny, sweetheart. That's all.” He said without expanding his explanation further.
As they enjoy their breakfast together, Colton raised a concern that needed to be paid attention. He hasn't started any projects yet but it's falling apart already all because of one problem.
“Your ex-husband is damaging my company. He's stealing business investors, and is messing with me. I believe it's a form of retaliation. What do you think?”
Lissie was stunned. “Come again?”
Louis let out a heavy sigh. “He's targeting Mr. Alfonso, my business partner in my upcoming construction project. Mr. Alfonso suddenly backed out of our agreement and later on told me he has Colton Vistagra in his back. It pissed me off.”
She couldn't hide her disappointment. She knows Colton very well. He does everything in his power to stop a person from doing what he wants. She knew it. He's always up for something. This is the first time she's going up against him, and Lissie couldn't deny he's a challenge.
She did not expect that he would stoop that low and form a retaliation towards Louis who did nothing wrong for him. Lissie sees him as someone who's bitter. Louis is far better than him and Lissie believes that what he lost will come back and it will be tripled.
“I'm so sorry, Louis…” Lissie extends her greatest efforts to apologize for the damage her ex-husband has done.
Louis took a deep breath and sighed. “It's not your fault, Lis. It's your dimwit ex-husband’s fault.”
“He's doing this to you because of me…”
Silence crept the whole area. Lissie was in deep thought. She knew her ex-husband very well and he doesn't like to fail, nor decline. His ego will get hurt if he does so, and will take it to heart. He won't forget someone who did that to him and will surely be on his watch list.
Louis sighed heavily. ‘I’m not stupid enough not to know it's because he's bitter towards us.’ He told himself whilst ogling to nowhere.
The silence broke when Lissie's phone suddenly rang. It rang for a second until the caller dropped the call. When she saw the number, it came overseas which stunned her momentarily. However, what caught her attention was when she saw a jaw dropping amount of money sent to her on her notification bar!
Lissie immediately threw her phone on the table. How could someone send her an enormous amount at this hour? It's still 7 am in the morning!
“Why? What is it? Did someone die?” Louis overly reacted due to Lissie's reaction.
She immediately shook her head and showed her the phone. The balance on her account is now xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx!
“Maybe it was wrongly sent. I'll just contact the bank or personally go to their branch later after work.” She affirmed, sighing after the jolting moment of her life.
Louis shrugged his shoulders and said, “I doubt so. It's probably the amount Colton promised you. The compensation, I suppose.”
Suddenly, Lissie's forehead creased. She doesn't know how to react. Colton is a man of his words. She just can't believe he would drop an amount the same weight of a bomb as if it's just coins to him! Indeed, Colton is extremely extravagant. But that doesn't mean Lissie won't complain.
“My decision is final. I won't do what he's asking for. He's not my boss to begin with!” She affirmed, filled with emotions in her tone. “Colton thinks he can still boss me around but I'll show him who I am now!”
Later that afternoon, she thought her horrific conversation with Colton would stop there but it didn't. She's at the coffee shop at the moment, on her way out with an Ice Macchiato with two punches of syrup in her hand when Colton suddenly appears outside, jolting her.
Lissie almost threw her coffee on him but Colton did not even flinch. A small amount of coffee spilled in her clothes which made Lissie angry.
“Come on!” She annoyingly affirmed. “Do you even know how much these top costs?”
The man smirked. “I'll pay for it, don't worry. Expect another transaction in your bank again later on.”
“I'm not divorcing him.” Lissie firmly affirmed with confidence in her voice. “You're here for an update right? Well, I'm sorry to tell you but I tore the divorce papers earlier. I hope I won't be able to see you again. As for the money? Don't bother worrying about it. I'll send it back as soon as possible!”
Annoyed for his abrupt appearance, Lissie immediately hopped inside her Jaguar and drove fast. She remained annoyed right after she landed at the office. She has a meeting later on and her top is messed up.
Lissie was about to go down when she received a notification. Another transaction was sent once again in an amount of xx,xxx with a note.
“Payment for your messed up top. Nice t**s by the way. :)”
Lissie regretted that she didn't throw her iced coffee on him. Her face was red and was fuming mad towards Colton. She badly wanted to punch him yet she couldn't.
