Chapter 2

1502 Words
Violet “Milton! I told you we are going to need over a thousand bottles of white wine and only a few of the red. I learned the last time people preferred the white over the red" demands Violet Harris as she prepared for the big event she was hosting that week. Money knew no cost for her. She was going all out for this event. She really believed in this event. She was going to help raise money for tigers who had been abused in circus or at zoos. Milton was her assistant in all this. Milton Forbes was not a very good one sometimes. "I am sorry! I mixed it up! I ordered a thousand bottles of red wine!" grumbles Milton. "Tell me Milton. Do you want to be fired?" questions Violet. "No! Please let me fix this! I can get on the phone. I will call them right now. Get this mess all fixed up" pleads Milton. "Fine. Be sure you do. This better be ready by Friday night" warns Violet as she walks around the place while workers were busy getting things ready for her event. "There you are princess! I have been looking for you all over this place!" her father greets her to the scene. He hugs her. "Dad! I am so glad you stopped by! Everything is coming into place! Thank you for letting me do this! I know we are going to raise a lot of money for these animals! And guess what! All the tickets to this even have sold out!" brags a happy Violet. "Wonderful dear! I knew you could do it!" he brags on her. He grins. "Tell me Dad. Are you and mother going to be able to come to my event? It would mean so much to me if you did" pleads Violet. She never got to see her folks at her events. Though she always did things for worldly causes. "I am sorry dear. But I cannot do it" warns her Dad. "Why not? I thought you said you were going to be able to come to this one" whimpers an unhappy Violet. She craved family time. This was something even money could not seem to buy her. "Because dear, we have to fly on out to Africa. I am doing a business deal out there" her Dad explains. "But Dad! So many people are expecting you to make an appearance!" begs Violet. "I have gotten stars to come. Like Chris Jenner to Bradly Ford" she complains. "These people are not just coming to see me dear girl. They are coming to see the real star! You! You set all this up here! You did all this! I am so proud of you. I came by here to tell you all this. Show me around before I have to fly out" her Dad begs her. She nods. She knew there was no point in begging him to stay. He never did for her. No matter how she begged. Or what she accomplished in her life. "Well Dad, you won't believe this one. The man who runs the organization to save these tigers is going to bring live tigers he rescued to this cause. I will have white tigers to regular tigers here in cages over here. We will have baby tigers to. To let people come in and visit over there in that little room. They will get free photo taken with the tigers. Normally we do not promote that. But this is to raise money for the animals. So it will be a one-time deal" explains Violet as she showed her father around the place. "I see. This is amazing. Everything is" he mentions thoughtfully. "Alone in ticket sales to this event we raised a million dollars for the tigers. If they want to take photos or buy shirts to mugs well the sales will all go to the tigers to" says Violet with pride. "I suppose you have another event planned later after this one is over with? What else are you dreaming of my beautiful daughter" chuckles her father. He hugs her. "Many things. I want to save the planet. One step at a time" she laughs. "I really wish you could be here" she sighs as she hugs her father. "I would be if I could be" he vows to her. "I know you would be" she grumbles. "You will have a blast with all your friends. Send me a million photos will you?" he jokes. "A zillion of them" she giggles. "There you two are! Violet you have out done yourself dear girl" her mother greets her hello. "Have a safe flight out to Africa" Violet tells them as she hugs her mother. "We will. Be cautious around the tigers please my little dare devil" warns her mother. "Always" laughs Violet. "We must be going. The jet is ready for take-off" her father says as he looks down at his iPhone. "Bye dear" they tell her before they leave. "Farewell" sighs Violet as she watches her father whisk her mother away. Violet could be surrounded by people and still feel lonely. She missed her family. She only was around them for the holidays. It was just not fair. She understood life happened. It kept everyone busy. But she just wished she had more time with them. "Milton!" calls out an sad twenty-two year old Violet as she runs her fingers in her curly short blond hair. "Yes madam?" Milton asks as he rushes over by her side. "I want the venders that will be coming sitting together. I do not want them to be able to bother the celebrities' that will be coming to the event" Violet pushes herself back into work mode. Keeping busy. Keeping her thoughts off of missing her family. "Yes, Miss. Harris" says Milton as he jots down notes on his clip board. "Did you get a hold of the place where we bought the champagne from?" demands Violet. "I did. We are getting ready to ship the unnecessary red wine back. They will ship the white wine to us overnight" explains Milton. "Good to see you are on top of things" she tells him. He nods. "Thank you Miss Harris" he tells her. "There you are! I have been looking for you all over this place!" she hears a voice say. She whirls around to see her good friend Leo Travis. "Leo! You made it out here!" she says with joy. They hug. Leo was gay. But he was a better friend than any girl could be to her. And less drama in her life. "I would not miss my best friends' event for the world" he tells her after they hug. "I am so glad to see you here! Everything is in such a mess. Milton ordered to much red wine which is not in now. I have to wait for the white to get here overnight. I have so much to do still" she complains. "What about your date?" he asks her. "Who will be your date for the event?" he asks. She blinks with surprise. She never thought about bringing a date to her own event. She was far too busy to find one. She was going to a big event with no date. What a loser she would look like! "Oh no" she gasps as she sits in one of the chairs at a table. "What? You did not get a date?" he demands to know. She shakes her head no. "I was so busy I forgot" she groans. "I will be happy to be your date for the night" he offers her. "Leo! Oh your life saver! You mean it?" she laughs joyfully. She hugs him after standing back up. "My boyfriend Kent will not care for it. But I always have your back" he promises her. "You are the best" she brags on him. "I know" he chuckles. "You know who is coming this event?" she asks him with a twinkle in her eyes. "Who?" he begs to know. "Bradly Ford. Your favorite movie star. I happened to make your name to be seated at his table" she says smiling at her bestie. "Oh my GOD! You have to be kidding me! Did you really?" he laughs with joy. She nods. "Come see for yourself" she tells him as she leads him over to the tables. She shows him where he will be sitting at. "Oh man! This will be the best night of my life!" he says joyfully. He hugs her. "I know it will! These tigers will have a happy ending. That is what really matters" she says. She felt happy with her life. A little lonely at times. But she normally brushed it off. Moved on to the next thing going on in her life. Maybe one day she would find love. Have a marriage. Never know a lonely night one day. But for now this was her life.
