Chapter 3 2 years later…...           Amy giggled as the girl beneath hear bled down her face. The instructors had made sure to remove every knife she could have gotten her hands on when she entered the compound. She was smart though and had fashioned her own out of a chicken bone that she had stolen from a random tray at lunch one day. She had worked it against the rough concrete wall of the bathroom a little at a time until it was an implement she could use.           Her current victim was shielding her eyes with her hands as Amy worked to find a way around them. She had looked at Levi and smiled at him. How dare this girl think she could get away with such a thing. He was her friend. Her pair. She wasn’t going to take both eyes. Only one. Just enough to teach her.           “That’s enough Amy. They’re going to take it if they catch you.” Amy paused long enough to glare at Levi over her shoulder. Did he like the girl? Was he trying to save her? Levi scoffed and rolled his eyes. She was going to ignore him and go back to what she was doing when he held out his hand.           “What?”           “Get up.” He wiggled his outstretched fingers at her hoping to entice her to abandon what she was doing.           “You like her, don’t you?” Levi scowled at her growing annoyed with her.           “Amy you’re going to get into trouble again. They’ll put cameras in your room this time.” Amy thought this over while staring at the girl beneath her. She did like a good goring but not if they were going to start watching her too closely to have any fun. Sighing she got up letting the girl go. Not before giving her a solid kick in the ribs for good measure.           “Don’t even think about telling or I’ll make sure I get both your eyes.” The girl glared back at her but didn’t say anything. Reaching out she took hold of Levi’s shirt using it to wipe the bone of blood. Levi was glaring at Amy now too, but she didn’t care. He deserved to have his shirt ruined for getting in the way. She had begun to find him more and more annoying lately. It was bad enough that the grown ups pushed so many rules on them. Now Levi was doing it too. He used to be so fun. Whatever changed she wished he would go back.           As she walked away Levi bent down to help the girl up. Amy’s fist clenched causing the bone to dig into her right hand. She never got to do anything she wanted. At least Levi got to go out for jobs that Dr. Green had for him. Not Amy though. Never her. She was told she was too unstable for that yet. It wasn’t fair. Maybe she wouldn’t act out as much during the day if she got to go out. She hadn’t been outside of the grounds since the night she was brought in. She was feeling trapped.           Amy left the building needing to be out of there. The sunshine and fresh air did little for her mood, however. Glaring at nothing she stormed off without any destination in mind. Levi’s warning was bugging her though and she knew the bone had to be hidden before they found it on her. The best place would be behind the teacher’s rooms. Looking around she made sure no one was watching while she slipped behind the building. Picking a spot that would go unnoticed she dug a small hole. By the time she was done she was feeling sad having to give up her toy. She didn’t like feeling that way and had almost dug it back up. She just sat there staring at the freshly turned dirt.           A loud chirping caught her attention. She tried to ignore it, but it wouldn’t stop. Heat ran through her body as her temper set in. Following the noise, she soon came upon a baby bird that had fallen out of its nest. Amy watched it fumbling around on the ground while it chirped in distress. It was a curious little thing that had managed to keep her attention even though she found the sound it made irritating.           It managed to work its way over to her foot. Amy scooped the little thing up into her hands surprised by the increase in struggle when she did. Glancing up into the trees it took her a moment to spot the nest among the branches. She couldn’t see anymore baby birds from where she stood but she could hear the ruckus they made in response to their sibling’s chirps. Were they calling out to it even though they were helpless to do anything for it? Looking around the sky she didn’t see the parent bird coming to help. Shouldn’t it be looking out for its babies? While Amy looked around seemingly to find the momma bird, she had taken to lightly petting it as if to calm it.           Turning her attention back to the tree she found there were branches low enough for her to be able to take hold of. That was if she wanted to place the young bird back into the next with the others. She supposed she could put it back. That would at least stop the noise they were all making. Smiling up at the nest, Amy increased the pressure of her caress. The fragile thing squirmed in the hand it sat upon trying to get away from the pressure. Amy watched it as it began chirping once again. The sound was more piercing this time as it cried out. In response to the change the other babies above them had begun to match it. It was a chaotic mess of cries. Amy thought it sounded lovely.           Stopping her ‘comfort’ she watched it as it tried to get away from her hand. Smiling down at it she rested her hand on top of the fuzzy animal. She didn’t stop there though. She began increasing her grip on it. Squeezing while she listened to the sounds of distress it was making. Bones began to give feeling like tiny twigs snaping in her hands. She pressed harder and harder until it ceased to move. She kept her hands clasped together long after it had gone silent.           Removing her top hand Amy studied the bird as it lay motionless in her hand. The chaos of noise above her hadn’t stopped when the creature’s cries had. Smiling Amy turned her eyes back up to the nest in the tree. There were ways to help quiet them.
