Chaptet Three-Freya

For the upteenth time, I examine the neck chain in my hands. The design of it was very detailed. It is pure gold. Made up of small rings intertwined in an endless loop. The turn and twist of each ring is elegant. It's a masterpiece. What really catches my attention is the pendant on the chain. It's shaped like a half moon with a star at the top of the moon. It's the symbol of a werewolf royal family. A ruler feared and revered by everyone, humans and werewolves alike. I had found it on the werewolf we killed days ago. "Why was he carrying it?" I ask, spinning the chain on my fingers. We were in my chambers with Lola sitting on the bed with me while Lucas' tall figure hovered in the small space. Only alphas or family to the alpha carried the royal symbol. They do this for easy identification because the ruling system is non hereditary. The alpha's family wasn't as popular as the Alpha. His family were allowed to lead normal lives if they wanted to. "If the wolf we killed was one connected to an Alpha, then we are in big trouble" Lucas says. I agreed with him. Werewolf were very vain and would do anything to feed their vanity even if they didn't care about the dead person. "But why would the relative of an Alpha be involved in this?" I think "What do we do?" I ask my teammates. They shrug their shoulders "I think we should go away. Somewhere far from here. Wulfgar is not far from here. It'll be easy for them to catch us" I suggest and Lucas is lost in his thoughts while Lola gives me a stubborn look. "And forget about the abducted people? You seem to forget this is what we do. We were trained for this. We live and die for this. We would stay back and fight them when they come. Nothing we haven't done before." Lola says, fondling her dagger. I sigh in frustration. "Lola, this is Wulfgar we are talking about. I bet they are werewolves already looking for us and if we are not safe, there's no way we would find these people. We have to leave." "It doesn't matter. We can take them. We just have to send a mail to the academy and we'll get help. I know we will." She has the hopeful look of a child asking for sweets but I know better. It hurts that I have to run from the werewolves but it's better to be safe than sorry. "Lola, you know we left the academy and their protection which means we are literally on our own. They can't help us and even if they can, I don't think they will. Who wants to offend Wulfgar's alpha?" Lucas tries to make Lola see reasons and she is quiet. Thinking of another plan, I guess. "We leave in the morning." I say. My voice has a note of finality. "I'll meet with King tomorrow morning" Lucas says and I give him an appreciation look. He nods and leaves the room. "Leave the strategizing for your brother, Lola" I say when I notice Lola is still deep in thought. She chuckles and moves to the other side of the room where there's another mattress. "Don't worry, I'll have my own plans ready tomorrow morning" She says from across the room. "Please don't" I say in mock exasperation and she laughs again. "We have a long journey tomorrow. We should sleep" Lola said, which is not surprising. We all knew Lola prioritized her resting period over anything else. I smile and put the neck chain away. Lying back on the creaky and old mattress, I think long and hard about how different my life would have been if my parents were still alive. Maybe I would have been married off to one of the village young men. Who knows, I would have had up to two children and would be on my third pregnancy. My parents would visit the house and my kids would visit their grandparents whenever they wanted. I would live a relatively peaceful and fulfilled life. One not bound by hate, revenge and frustrations. I miss my parents. I miss the beauty of our relationship. I miss their care, love and dedication to our family. I was an only child so I got to enjoy every bit of their attention to the point I felt choked. If only I could get even an hour with them again. I fall asleep amidst these thoughts. My dreams are nice, a reflection of my thoughts. Then, they turn scary. That night plays out in front of me again. Years have passed since it happened but I still get nightmares from the memory of it. The haunting memories of blood. Red blood, everywhere. My parent's blood. Screams of agony, loss and pain. My screams, the villagers scream. The large wolf looming in the shadows, his large hands pointing to me. His chilling laughter.I'm captured in my nightmare. I feel beads of sweat drip down my body and wet the bed but I can't wake up. I try but I can't. "Freya!" My dad's voice calls out to me. I feel heated up, almost like the pain and anger inside me is boiling from within. "Go!" The voice is soft at first but it turns hard and cold, then loud. "Freya! Freya, wake up!" The voices are merged but they are from different places. I grimace but the voice on one side is louder so I follow it. I open my eyes and squint because of the morning light. "Freya! Thank God you are awake. You were talking in your sleep and now you are burning up." It's Lola. I recognize her voice before my eyes adjust to the light in the room. The mattress is soaked and I suspect my sweat is to blame. "Let me get a bowl of water and a towel for you" Lola says as I try to sit up. I nod and she leaves the room in haste. I groan as a sharp ache hits my skull. This was normal. The dream, the fever and the headache were normal. They often come when I am stressed Lola comes back with the bowl and towel and drops them on a table beside my bed. "I have asked the housekeeper to prepare tea and porridge for you. You'll be fine." She says and I manage a small thank you but words cannot really express how grateful I am. "We have to get out of here before the day gets old." I say as I submerged the towel inside the bowl of water, bring it out and squeeze the water out. Then, I placed the wet towel on my skin and cleaned gently. I decide to take a walk into the forest to clear my head as going back to sleep is impossible now. The moon is high up in the sky and leaves scrunch under my boots as the wind rattles the trees. I breathe in deeply thankful for the cool breeze that contrast my hot body. I hear footsteps coming towards my direction and crouch preparing to lunge at any danger A werewolf attacks me but i maneuver his attacks ,aiming bullets his way and he falls limp, but before i know it 3 werewolves lunge for me out of no where but I am weak and out of bullets. BANG! Someone hits me. _gods_ I can not feel anything and I fall unconscious
