Chapter 11: Unexpected Encounter After the intense confrontation in the conference room, Alex finally secured the approval for the major implementation of his plans. The weight of responsibility settled heavily on his shoulders, but he felt a surge of determination to make his vision a reality. Meanwhile, in the classrooms of Chulalongkorn University, there was a noticeable absence of Tharn for weeks. Maya grew increasingly worried as she tried to reach him by phone, only to be met with silence on the other end. Her mind raced with concern, wondering what could have happened to her friend. One afternoon, after classes had ended, Maya found herself wandering towards a nearby convenience store. As she stepped inside, her eyes scanned the familiar surroundings until they landed on a figure behind the cashier's counter. It was Tharn. Time seemed to stand still as Maya's heart skipped a beat. She couldn't believe her eyes. Without thinking, she approached the counter, her steps hesitant yet determined. Tharn looked up, his expression guarded as he noticed Maya's presence. "Tharn," Maya whispered, her voice barely audible above the hum of the store. "It's been weeks. I've been so worried about you." Tharn's gaze faltered for a moment before he averted his eyes, focusing on the items in front of him. The air between them was heavy with unspoken words, the tension palpable. Maya reached out, her hand trembling as she gently touched Tharn's arm. "Please, talk to me. Tell me what's been going on. I miss you, Tharn. I don't want to lose you as a friend." Tharn remained silent, his emotions masked behind a facade of indifference. But Maya could see the turmoil in his eyes, the pain that he was trying so hard to conceal. "Please," Maya pleaded, her voice breaking as tears welled up in her eyes. "I know something's wrong. Let me help you. Let me be there for you like you've always been there for me." Maya hesitated for a moment before speaking again, her voice soft but determined. "Tharn, please talk to me. I know something's wrong. You can't keep shutting me out like this." Tharn sighed heavily, his gaze fixed on the floor as he struggled to find the right words. "It's complicated, Maya. I've been dealing with some personal issues, and I didn't want to burden you with them." "But that's what friends are for, Tharn," Maya insisted, her eyes pleading with him to open up. "We're supposed to be there for each other, through the good times and the bad. You don't have to face whatever you're going through alone." Tharn finally looked up, his eyes shimmering with unshed tears. "I know, Maya. I just... I didn't want to drag you into my mess. I thought it would be easier if I dealt with it on my own." Maya reached out and gently placed her hand on Tharn's arm, offering him a small smile of encouragement. "You don't have to face this alone, Tharn. Whatever you're going through, I'm here for you. We'll get through it together, I promise." Tharn's defenses began to crumble as he felt the weight of Maya's words sink in. He took a deep breath, his voice barely above a whisper. "It's my family, Maya. They're going through a tough time right now, and I don't know how to help them. I feel so helpless, like I'm failing them." Maya squeezed Tharn's arm gently, her heart aching for her friend. "I'm so sorry, Tharn. I had no idea you were going through all of this. But you're not alone, okay? We'll figure this out together. Your family is lucky to have someone as caring and compassionate as you." Tharn looked up at Maya, gratitude shining in his eyes. "Thank you, Maya. I don't know what I would do without you." Maya smiled warmly at Tharn, her heart swelling with affection. "You don't have to find out, Tharn. I'll always be here for you, no matter what." As they stood there, enveloped in the warmth of their friendship, Maya knew that their bond was stronger than ever. Together, they would face whatever challenges life threw their way, supporting each other every step of the way. And as they walked out of the convenience store, Maya felt a sense of peace wash over her, knowing that they would always have each other's backs. In that moment, surrounded by the soft glow of the convenience store lights, Maya and Tharn found solace in each other's arms. They didn't need words to convey their feelings; their embrace spoke volumes, a silent promise of friendship and support. As they stood there, lost in each other's embrace, Maya felt a glimmer of hope flicker in her heart. She knew that whatever challenges lay ahead, they would face them together, hand in hand. And as they finally pulled away from each other, their eyes met with a newfound understanding. The road ahead wouldn't be easy, but with each other by their side, they knew they could weather any storm that came their way. Together, they stepped out of the convenience store, ready to face whatever the future held, one step at a time. And as they walked side by side into the night, Maya couldn't help but feel grateful for the unexpected encounter that had brought them closer together than ever before. As Maya and Tharn walked back to Tharn's apartment, Maya couldn't shake the worry that clouded her mind. "Tharn, I'm really glad you opened up to me. I've been so worried about you. But please, let me help you through this. We'll figure it out together." Tharn glanced at Maya, his expression torn between gratitude and guilt. "Maya, I appreciate your offer, I really do. But I don't want to burden you with my family's problems. It's not fair to drag you into this mess." Maya stopped in her tracks, turning to face Tharn with determination shining in her eyes. "Tharn, listen to me. We're friends, and friends help each other. Your problems are my problems too. I won't let you face this alone." Tharn's resolve wavered as he looked into Maya's earnest eyes, her unwavering support melting away his doubts. "Okay, Maya. Let's go home." As they entered Tharn's apartment, Maya wasted no time in getting down to business. She listened intently as Tharn explained the situation with his family, offering words of comfort and encouragement. "I'm so sorry you're going through all of this, Tharn," Maya said softly, her voice filled with empathy. "But we'll get through it together. I promise." Tharn felt a pang of guilt as he watched Maya's teary smile, knowing that he had been keeping his troubles from her for far too long. "Maya, I'm really sorry for not telling you sooner. I didn't want to burden you with my problems." Maya shook her head, her smile never faltering. "Tharn, you don't have to apologize. We're friends, remember? We're supposed to share each other's burdens." As they talked late into the night, Tharn couldn't shake the nagging feeling of guilt that lingered in the back of his mind. He knew that he had to make a decision soon: continue spying on Maya to protect her, or trust her to handle things on her own. But as he looked at Maya's determined face, her unwavering resolve shining through, Tharn knew that he couldn't bear to betray her trust any longer. He made a silent vow to himself that from now on, he would work alongside Maya as her equal, protecting her without compromising their friendship. And as they finally bid each other goodnight, Tharn felt a sense of peace wash over him, knowing that he had made the right choice. Together, they would face whatever challenges lay ahead, side by side, as true friends always do. The following morning dawned bright and clear, and as the students of Chulalongkorn University filed into their classrooms, they were met with a surprising sight: Tharn, usually absent for weeks, was sitting at his desk, looking slightly disheveled but otherwise no worse for wear. Whispers rippled through the room as everyone tried to catch a glimpse of Tharn, their curiosity piqued by his sudden return. Lily and Railee, two of Maya's closest friends, were among the first to notice Tharn's presence. They exchanged puzzled looks before leaning in to whisper to Maya. "Hey, Maya, what's going on? Why is Tharn here all of a sudden?" Lily asked, her voice filled with confusion. "Yeah, did he finally emerge from hibernation or something?" Railee added, trying to stifle a giggle. Maya, ever the master of subtlety, simply nodded in Tharn's direction, a knowing smile playing on her lips. Lily and Railee followed her gaze, their eyes widening in disbelief as they spotted Tharn sitting there, seemingly oblivious to the commotion around him. "Wait, what? Tharn's here?" Lily exclaimed, her voice rising in astonishment. Railee nodded, her eyes wide with shock. "I can't believe it! I thought he'd disappeared off the face of the earth!" As the professor entered the room, Maya seized the opportunity to slip into her seat unnoticed, leaving Lily and Railee to ponder the mystery of Tharn's sudden reappearance. Throughout the class, Lily and Railee couldn't shake their bewilderment, stealing glances at Tharn every chance they got. They whispered furiously to each other, trying to come up with theories to explain his sudden return. "Do you think he won the lottery or something?" Lily whispered, her eyes still fixed on Tharn. Railee shook her head, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. "Nah, I heard he joined a secret society of ninja warriors and just returned from a top-secret mission." Lily stifled a laugh, unable to resist Railee's wild imagination. "Or maybe he discovered a portal to another dimension and spent the last few weeks exploring exotic alien worlds." Their conversation was interrupted by the professor, who cleared his throat to signal the start of the lecture. Lily and Railee quickly turned their attention back to the front of the room, their minds still buzzing with excitement over the mysterious return of Tharn. As the class came to an end, Lily and Railee couldn't contain their curiosity any longer. They approached Maya with wide eyes, eager to get to the bottom of the mystery. "Okay, spill the beans, Maya," Lily demanded, her voice tinged with excitement. "What's the deal with Tharn? Why is he suddenly back?" Maya simply shrugged, a playful twinkle in her eye. "Who knows? Maybe he finally realized he was missing out on all the fun." Lily and Railee exchanged bemused glances, shaking their heads in disbelief. They may not have gotten any answers, but one thing was for sure: Tharn's sudden return had certainly livened up an otherwise ordinary day at Chulalongkorn University. As Bloom returned to her post behind the counter, Maya approached her with a warm smile, carrying a tray of freshly baked pastries. "Hey, Bloom! I brought some treats for the customers. I hope they enjoy them!" Bloom returned Maya's smile, but her expression remained guarded as she glanced towards Tharn's table outside. "Maya, I saw you talking to Tharn earlier. Are you sure you can trust him?" Maya set the tray down and sighed, understanding Bloom's concern but feeling frustrated by the doubt surrounding Tharn. "Bloom, I know you're worried about me, but Tharn and I have talked things out. He's genuinely sorry for what happened, and he wants to make things right. I believe him." Bloom nodded slowly, her skepticism softening slightly as she observed Maya's unwavering faith in her friend. "I just don't want to see you get hurt, Maya. You mean a lot to me, and I'll always have your back." Maya reached out and squeezed Bloom's hand gratefully. "I know, Bloom. And I appreciate it more than you know. But I trust Tharn, and I hope you can, too." Meanwhile, Tharn sat at his table, sipping his coffee and watching Maya and Bloom's interaction through the window. He couldn't help but feel a swell of gratitude towards Maya for standing by him, despite the doubts of others. Just then, his phone buzzed again, this time with a text message from the same unknown number. Tharn frowned, hesitating before deciding to open it. The message was short and cryptic: "You can't hide forever." Tharn's heart rate quickened as he read the ominous words, his mind racing with questions. Who was this mysterious caller, and what did they want from him? But he pushed aside his fear and uncertainty, determined not to let anyone or anything come between him and Maya's trust. Ignoring the message, Tharn slipped his phone back into his pocket and turned his attention back to his coffee, his resolve stronger than ever. He would protect Maya at all costs, even if it meant facing whatever threats lurked in the shadows. As Bloom wiped down the counters, she couldn't shake the nagging feeling of unease that lingered in the back of her mind. Finally, she decided to confront Tharn about her concerns regarding Maya's safety. Approaching Tharn's table with a determined expression, Bloom cleared her throat to get his attention. "Tharn, can we talk for a moment?" Tharn looked up, his brows furrowing slightly at the serious tone in Bloom's voice. "Of course, Bloom. What's on your mind?" Bloom took a deep breath, steeling herself for the conversation ahead. "Tharn, I want to make something clear. Maya's safety is my top priority, and I won't hesitate to take action if I feel like she's in danger." Tharn's eyes narrowed slightly at Bloom's words, a flicker of annoyance crossing his features. "I understand your concern, Bloom. But you have to trust me when I say that I would never do anything to harm Maya. We're on the same track here." Bloom folded her arms across her chest, her expression skeptical. "Forgive me if I find that hard to believe, Tharn. You've caused Maya a lot of pain in the past, and I won't stand idly by if I think you're going to hurt her again." Tharn bristled at Bloom's accusatory tone, his frustration simmering beneath the surface. "I get it, Bloom. You're just looking out for Maya, and I respect that. But I've already apologized to her, and we've moved past it. I won't let you or anyone else cast doubt on my intentions." Bloom sighed, her gaze softening slightly as she realized the depth of Tharn's sincerity. "I'm not trying to accuse you, Tharn. I just want to make sure Maya is safe. Can you promise me that you'll always have her best interests at heart?" Tharn met Bloom's gaze, his expression resolute. "I promise, Bloom. Maya means everything to me, and I'll do whatever it takes to keep her safe." Bloom nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. "Good. If anything were to happen to Maya, I don't know what I'd do." Tharn reached out and placed a reassuring hand on Bloom's shoulder. "Don't worry, Bloom. Maya is in good hands. I'll make sure of it." As Bloom walked away, a sense of relief washed over her. While she still harbored doubts about Tharn, she couldn't deny the sincerity in his words. And as she glanced back at Tharn's table, she couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope that maybe, just maybe, he truly did have Maya's best interests at heart.
