CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT We drove to the house in the Jeep and listened with grins and giggles as Gail merrily updated us on the recent trip to Japan and ensuing adventures. There was a new guy named Igor in her life, one she’d met at a local coffee shop. She wouldn’t reveal much, preferring we first meet the professional zombie. Yup, that was his job and a lucrative one it was. As an FYI, zombies weren’t just Halloween material anymore. They were popular at birthdays, bar and bat mitzvahs, communions, and staff parties (and a little less so at seniors’ festivities). Agreeing to have her and her new beau over for a barbecue next week—sans zombie costume and make-up and lumbering —we proceeded to enlighten her about all that had transpired, ending with the calls made earlier today.
