Chapter8

I washed up as fast as I could, but before I even made it outside, he was already gone. I stood there wondering who this Selena woman was and why she was so important. A bodyguard waited outside to lead me back to the party, and I felt a sudden flash of anger. When I finally got downstairs, my breath caught. I spotted him in a corner with a beautiful woman. Her glossy black hair fell over her shoulders in perfect waves. She leaned in close, whispering something in his ear. I couldn’t hear a single word, but a sudden wave of jealousy rolled through me, making my skin crawl. Without thinking, I moved toward them, almost tripping over my own feet because I was rushing to stand beside him. Logan’s eyes shifted from me back to Selena. He placed a hand on my waist to pull me close, but it did nothing to calm me down because she did not step back. She just stood there, looking at me like an unwanted interruption. I cleared my throat loudly to interrupt them before he could speak. "This is Selena, my business partner," he introduced, his tone tight and serious. I leaned in close against my man as she finally took a step back. "Business partner?" She let out a sharp laugh and took a deep breath. "If that's what you want to call me, I guess I can't argue." She turned to me and held out her hand, though her smile was fake and empty. "And you are?" Before I could even reach out, Logan gently slapped her hand away, his protective instinct turning into pure anger. "That is none of your business." His jaw tightened. His voice sounded cold and hostile, protecting my identity like a secret he refused to let her touch. Selena tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear, looking amused. "You are being so mean, Ace," she said, her voice sounding far too familiar. My stomach instantly tightened into a painful knot. Ace? Was that a nickname? Did he have a special name that he had never bothered to tell me about? My entire mood was ruined. "I have to go," I whispered. I turned away from them immediately and walked back to my table. I grabbed my purse with shaking hands, pulled out my phone, and quickly texted my driver, desperate to escape. Logan followed me right away. He gently caught my wrist, but I pulled my hand away with a sharp yank. "What is it, Allie? Where are you going?" he demanded, looking confused and panicked as I marched toward the exit. For no reason at all, my eyes began to fill with tears. I tried my best to look away from him because it would be so embarrassing if he saw me crying. I didn't want him to know that I was completely jealous. "Sweetheart, wait. The event isn't over yet, and I planned to take you somewhere," he urged. His voice softened completely as he followed me outside. I paused at the entrance. The rain was pouring down in heavy sheets, and to make things worse, everyone was staring right at us. "Baby, don't go out in the rain. You might catch a cold," he pleaded, his eyes wide with worry. I hadn't actually planned to walk out into the storm, but just because he told me not to, I stepped right into the rain. I didn't want to follow his orders. I looked around frantically, but my driver was nowhere to be seen. I wished I could just disappear. To be honest, I was angry at myself for being so jealous, and I was furious at him for making me feel that way. I knew it sounded completely crazy. "Baby, come on. What did I do?" Logan begged as he finally caught up to me, pulling me into his arms. He hugged me tight right there in the rain. "At least tell me my offense so I know how to apologize." His voice cracked slightly, heavy with worry. I couldn't say a single word as the tears kept streaming down my face, mixing with the cold rainwater. "I wanted us to go to my favorite place tonight," he explained, and I could hear the deep frustration in his voice. His heart was racing fast right against my ear. I pulled away from him and spotted my car arriving a short distance away. "And then what? So you can just sleep with me? Is that all I am to you? Your s*x toy?" I blurted out, the words escaping before I could stop them, fueled by pure hurt. "I never thought that." He looked completely shocked and hurt. "Why would you think something like that about me?" His voice broke. "Just stay away from me," I choked out. I opened the car door, climbed inside, and slammed it shut. He tapped desperately on my window as the car pulled away into the dark night. I collapsed against the seat, burying my face in my hands, my entire body soaked. I really couldn't explain why I was so viciously angry. Part of me wanted to tell the driver to turn around so I could go back to him, but my pride stopped me. It would feel too weird and embarrassing after the dramatic scene I had just caused for no good reason. When I finally got home, the front door was unlocked. I went straight to my bedroom, shivering as I tried to take my wet clothes off Laura was sitting on the couch watching TV, but the moment she saw me, she jumped up and followed me into the bathroom with a worried look. "Dude, your makeup is a total mess. What happened? Did you get dumped?" she demanded quickly. That was when I looked down and realized the truth. There was blood on my clothes, which meant my period had just started. That explained the wild mood swings that had completely taken over my brain.
