The lie was so obvious, I couldn’t believe they thought that was going to work on her.
Jane finally lifted her head—just enough to meet Celeste’s gaze. Her voice came out flat.
“I forgot my pen,” she said. “That’s all.”
Celeste’s brows shot up. “And you didn’t see anything?”
Jane didn’t flinch when she answered. “They were talking.”
A beat of silence.
Tara laughed—high and disbelieving. “You’re seriously not going to say anything?”
Jane closed her notebook with a soft snap. “There’s nothing to say. I came in, they were talking, considering they are from Lycan families, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were close.”
Celeste’s smile finally slipped. Irritation flashed across her face before she smoothed it back into something sweeter. “You’re no fun either today. Both of you.”
