Veyra’s voice cut through the echo of our footsteps. “Your suite is on the east wing, third floor. Since you are a princess, you won’t be sharing a room with anyone.”
“Oh, no, I don’t want any special treatment,” I said quickly, the words tumbling out before I could stop them. My voice echoed too loudly in the vast entrance hall. “I mean—thank you, but… I’d prefer a regular room. With roommates, maybe.”
Headmistress Veyra paused mid-step, turning to look at me with those winter-sharp eyes. “Princess, if you were to share a room, they won’t feel… comfortable.”
I sighed. Of course they wouldn’t. I was not Leticia Rivers; I was Leticia Sinclair, and that name carried weight.
“I understand,” I replied, and she smiled at me, probably happy that I didn’t make her life more difficult.
