Chapter 29: The Silver Storm's Wrath

549 Words
The air in the pack house was thick with the scent of ozone and fear. As I stood in the center of the grand hall, the silver light emanating from my eyes cast long, haunting shadows against the ancient stone walls. Kaelen stood by my side, his hand resting on the small of my back, a silent declaration that he would burn the world down before letting anyone touch me. But the Council wasn't backing down. Elder Vance stood at the head of the long oak table, his eyes burning with a hatred that felt personal. "She is not a Luna, Kaelen! She is a weapon of the Old Gods," Vance roared, his voice trembling with a mixture of rage and terror. "The scrolls warn us that when the moon bleeds silver, the blood of the wolves will follow. You are bringing a monster into our beds, into our sanctuary!" I felt a coldness spread from my chest to my fingertips. It wasn't the cold of the winter outside, but a sharp, crystalline power that demanded to be heard. I stepped forward, away from Kaelen’s protective grip. Every step I took left a faint, glowing frost on the floorboards. "A monster?" my voice sounded like grinding ice. "I spent my life believing I was nothing. I spent my life running from shadows. And when your 'pure' wolves left me to die in the snow, it was this 'monster' that saved your Alpha." "Silence, girl!" another Elder, a woman named Martha, shrieked. "You have bewitched him! We demand a trial by moonlight. If you are truly our Luna, you will survive the Moon-Blade’s touch. If not, you will be purged." Kaelen’s growl was so loud it shook the chandeliers. "You dare? You dare suggest the Moon-Blade for my mate? That is a death sentence for anyone without ancient blood!" "Then she will die as she was born—a nameless human," Vance sneered. Something inside me snapped. The silver veins on my arms began to pulse violently. I didn't mean to do it, but the power was no longer a whisper; it was a scream. I raised my hand, and suddenly, the massive oak table split down the middle with a deafening crack. Shards of wood flew through the air like daggers, pinning Vance’s heavy cloak to the wall behind him. The room went deathly silent. "I am not a human to be tested, and I am not a monster to be caged," I said, my voice resonating with a power that made the Elders drop to their knees in involuntary submission. "I am Aria. And if you want a trial, I will give you one. But it won't be by your blades. It will be by my storm." I turned to Kaelen. His expression was a mix of shock and intense pride. But deep in his golden eyes, I saw a flicker of worry. He knew what the Council was capable of. They wouldn't stop at words. They would go after the only thing I had left to lose. As I walked out of the hall, the silver frost following my every step, I realized that the real war hadn't even begun. Silas was a shadow, but the Council... they were the poison in the roots of the pack.
