Chapter 27: The Silver Awakening

418 Words
The world exploded in a symphony of grinding stone and choking dust. One moment I was holding up the sky with my bare hands, and the next, I was flying through the air, Kaelen’s powerful arm wrapped around my waist like a band of iron. We tumbled onto the frozen earth outside the cave entrance just as the mountain let out a final, hollow groan. Silence followed. A heavy, suffocating silence. "Aria? Aria!" Kaelen’s voice was frantic. I felt him rolling me onto my back, his hands trembling—a sight I never thought I’d see from an Alpha. I coughed, my lungs burning from the dust. My body felt light, almost hollow, as if the energy I had channeled had burned away everything human inside me. When I finally opened my eyes, the world looked different. The colors of the trees weren't just green; they were vibrant, pulsing with life. I could hear the heartbeat of a bird a mile away. Kaelen gasped, his hands freezing on my shoulders. His golden eyes were wide with a mixture of awe and absolute terror. "Kaelen? What is it?" I whispered. My voice sounded different—resonant, like a silver bell. He didn't speak. Instead, he reached into his vest and pulled out a small, polished silver mirror he used for signaling. He held it up to my face. I gasped. My eyes, once a simple brown, were gone. In their place were two glowing orbs of liquid silver. They shimmered with the same light as the moon above us. Even the faint scars on my neck from the rogue attack had vanished, replaced by a shimmering pattern of silver veins that pulsed in time with my heart. "The prophecy," Kaelen breathed, dropping to one knee in the snow. Behind him, the warriors who had survived the collapse also knelt, their heads bowed in deep respect. "The scrolls spoke of a Luna whose soul would be forged in the fire of the mountain. You aren't just a mate anymore, Aria. You are the Silver Queen." I looked at my hands. They were steady, glowing with a faint, ethereal light. I felt a power humming beneath my skin that was far greater than anything I had felt before. But as I looked at Mark, who lay unconscious nearby, I realized that this transformation came with a price. I could no longer feel the 'human' fear I once had. The girl who lived in the city was dead. The Queen had arrived.
