Chapter 12: The Alpha’s Fury and the Aftermath

328 Words
The heavy doors of the hall didn't just open; they exploded inward. Kaelen stood there, his silhouette framed by the silver moonlight, looking like a god of vengeance. His clothes were torn, and his eyes were no longer gold—they were a burning, incandescent white. Before Silas could even breathe, Kaelen was on him. The sheer speed and raw power were beyond anything I’d ever witnessed. He didn't need to shift; his human form radiated enough dominance to make the shadows themselves retreat. With one hand, he slammed Silas against the wall, the stone cracking under the impact. "I warned you," Kaelen’s voice was a low, terrifying vibration that felt like thunder in my chest. "Touch her mind again, and I will tear your soul from your body." Silas, realizing he had lost, dissolved into the shadows, fleeing like a coward. But Kaelen didn't chase him. Instead, he turned to me. The terrifying light in his eyes vanished, replaced by a desperate, raw vulnerability. He was across the room in a second, his hands trembling as they framed my face. "Aria... I felt you slip away. I felt the silence. I thought I had lost you." "I found my way back to you, Kaelen," I whispered, my voice thick with emotion. I reached up, pulling his head down so our foreheads rested together. "You’re not just a voice in my head. You’re the breath in my lungs." He let out a ragged breath, half-sob and half-growl, and pulled me into a kiss that was deeper and more desperate than anything before. It tasted of salt, snow, and a possessiveness that claimed every part of me. In that moment, the mansion, the pack, and the danger didn't exist. There was only the rhythmic pounding of two hearts that had become one. "Don't ever leave the circle of my arms again," he breathed against my lips, his grip tightening as if he could merge our souls together right there.
