Chapter 15: The Silver Reflection

377 Words
Kaelen didn't want our first day as mates to be spent inside the stone walls of the mansion. "Come with me," he whispered, his hand sliding into mine. His grip was firm, a silent promise that he would never let me fall again. He led me through a hidden trail in the forest, where the trees were so tall they seemed to touch the stars. Eventually, the woods opened up to a hidden lake. It wasn't frozen; the water was a deep, shimmering turquoise, steaming slightly in the cold air. It was a hot spring, hidden in the heart of the ice. "This is the Moonlight Lake," Kaelen said, standing behind me and wrapping his arms around my shoulders. "Legend says the first Alpha found his mate here. It’s a place of healing, Aria. And a place of peace." The steam curled around us like a veil. I turned in his arms, looking up at him. The moonlight hit the angles of his face, making him look like a statue carved from shadows and light. "It’s beautiful, Kaelen. But not as beautiful as the way you look at me." He didn't say a word. He simply leaned down, his lips meeting mine in a kiss that tasted like the crisp winter air and the warmth of the fire. As we stood there, the water began to glow, reflecting the silver light of the moon. I felt the bond between us hum, a steady vibration that made my heart dance. "I spent years in this forest alone," Kaelen breathed against my forehead. "I thought my heart was as cold as the ice on these trees. But you... you brought the spring back to my soul." I reached up, my fingers tracing the rugged scar on his brow. "And you gave me a reason to stop running, Kaelen. I’m not just surviving anymore. I’m living." We sat by the edge of the steaming water, tucked away from the world. There were no rivals here, no elders, and no betrayal. Just a man and a woman, tied together by a fate they both chose. It was a moment of pure, natural romance—the kind that doesn't need grand gestures, only the truth of two souls finally finding their home.
