Chapter 2

I was busy packing my belongings into the boxes in my room. My mum, Maggie would drive me together with my luggage to the new apartment. Our new semester will start next week. It would be an exciting year for me.

 “Honey!! Are you done yet?! We are going to be late!” Maggie was shouting from outside of the house. 

 “Yeah mum, I am coming” as I was carrying the boxes and loading into her old Honda Civic car. The car was full of boxes and books. My mum has ignited her Honda and drove slowly out of the garage.

 “Honey I am sure you will do great in the university. My door is always open for you if you encounter any problems at the university.” Maggie trying to encourage me during the journey to the apartment.

 “Yeah mum, don’t worry. I will do fine” trying to hide my expression with a fake smile. I’m worry about my mum more than myself. It took her long time to walk out of depression when my father passed away. It makes me feel uncomfortable to think that she will be all alone at home. “I’m done. Let’s go.” as I told my mum. My mum played some Christmas songs as she knew that Christmas songs gave me tranquillity.  Driving to school campus takes about 1.5 hour and I dozed off during the journey.

“Honey wake up. We are here”. I rubbed my eyes and look around thinking this will be my home for another 4 years. I had the weirdest dream during the journey. I dreamt about an adorable baby with blonde hair and sad blue eyes. He was hugging me tightly and didn’t let me go. I was at a bungalow house which was situated at the hilltop with beautiful water feature at the front yard. I can’t shake the uneasiness in the dream.

Maggie gave me a tight big hug and kisses before she waved goodbye. Mei Ling and I were busy unpacking the boxes and cleaning the house. “Mei Ling, shall we celebrate our freedom?” I asked Mei Ling. “But we are not done unpacking yet and school is starting on Monday, Rica”. “Come on, I don’t need another mother. Maybe we should go check the club nearby?” I persuaded Mei Ling. Mei Ling shakes her head in disapproval. “Please please please? You know I love you…”. I know the way to make Mei Ling felt uncomfortable and concede to my request. She always feels awkward to hear compliment or affection. “Ok, but we will be back before 1 am ok?” Mei Ling said conceding to my request

I put on my best bright midi dress with leather jackets. Mei Ling wore her black jeans with blue top that shows her sexy back. We put on some make-up and lip gloss. We took a cab to Beach Club. We entered the club with excitement as the DJ was remixing Closer by Chainsmoke. We passed through the crowd, I glanced at the crowd who were indulging themselves in the dance floor, they are mostly college students. The ladies are scantily clad as if they were there to seduce someone.

We ordered a drink and begin to dance our night away. Mei Ling chuckled at my funny dance moves. “Hello Asian girl. Looking for a f*ck tonight?” Mei Ling was stunned with a straight face. I looked up and saw a guy with ginger head and freckles across his cheek. He looked rowdy and has tattoo at his arm, silver ring at his eyebrow. “Yeah! F*ck off!” I yelled and dragged Mei Ling away. He blocked our way and yelled back “How dare you? This is my turf”. His gang of friends came over and surrounded us. “What do you want?! Why don’t you go outside and go f*ck yourself?” I yelled. His face turns red in anger and walked closer towards us. My heart skip so fast that I can’t hear anybody came by. I was shaking in fear, but I acted strong in front of the thug. “Hey! I believed the girls said no”. A tall attractive guy stops him in between. He has blonde hair, piercing blue eyes with ruddy complexion. Another guy came in to ask, “Are you both ok?” I looked at him and mesmerised by his charm. He has brunette hair with brown eyes. He looks so perfect that I felt he is not from this world. “We are… ok” I uttered. I anticipate that a fight is about to broke up as I closed my eyes. A group of bouncers came and told them to leave the club at once and banned them to ever come in again.

The two guys left making sure that we are ok and told the bouncers to look after us. They returned to the group of friends in the VIP room. A waitress brought 2 drinks over. “These 2 drinks are complimentary”. “Yeah. I need these to calm my nerves.” I replied. Waitress said “Hi. I am Rebecca”. Do you know that 2 guys that came to your rescue?”. We shake our head and eagerly waiting for her to explain. “Ok. They are the most eligible bachelors here. Their family own many businesses around the world. The gorgeous brunette is Derrek Johnson. His family own this club and he asked me to send over the drinks. That tall attractive blonde is Adam Smith. His family own businesses from airline to shipping companies. But that is weird, normally they do not meddle.”. She left puzzled. We gulped down the drink and hastily left the club.

We reached our apartments. I was lying on my bed thinking about Derrek. He is perfect with his tanned skin and attractive smile. How I wish to see him again.

ADAM SMITH’S POV

Derrek and I enter his club to chill out with a few friends. Derrek has been a childhood friend as our families are business partners. I scanned around the hall and I saw 2 ladies dancing by themselves having a great time. The brunette caught my attention with her goofy dance moves and bright blue eyes. She looks like an ordinary girl, but I just can’t take my eyes off her. A thug came by to tease her friend and I admire her courage to fight off the thug to protect her friend. I was hesitant to meddle in such scene. “Hey! I believed the girls said no”. I step in to stop the thug. The thug pulled my collar about to throw a punch in my face before bouncers came in to stop him. He is no match for me. He doesn’t know who I am. I could kill him with a snap of my finger. Derrek told the waitress to send 2 drinks to the girls. The girls left the club hastily. I bet they have been frightened.

“Why are you staring at the blank table?” Derrek asked. “I should have asked for her name” I replied. “Oh? You mean the brunette? She is charming.” Derrek replied.

Ladies have been trying to get my attention. I spent the night thinking about the brunette and hoping that I will see her again. My heart sink to think that she would never come to this club.
