A low chuckle rumbled on the other end. “I think this is not the best time to disturb Carter, my pet,” he said in that smooth, knowing tone. She rolled her eyes. “Are you protecting him from me?” she teased, though the edge in her voice was unmistakable. “Of course not,” Brady drawled, his voice turning wicked. “In fact, I’d rather you rip him apart. But since you’re asking, I’ll give it to you—just don’t do anything reckless.” Savannah frowned. What the hell was that supposed to mean? She didn’t bother asking. The moment Brady texted her the number, she dialed it. Once. Twice. No answer. She gritted her teeth and tried again. Nothing. Her pulse ticked in her throat as frustration gnawed at her. He was ignoring her.
