The onlookers could hardly believe their eyes.
"I never thought this would blow up big enough to bring Chief Cleary himself. No chance of settling things quietly now."
"Settling? Did you not see how he beat Captain Chase to a pulp?"
"And this guy was bragging about knowing Chief Cleary. He talked that big talk, so let's see how he wriggles out of this one."
The few surviving agents exchanged glances and let out a collective breath of relief. They'd been worried the man would turn on them next, but with Chief Cleary on the way, they finally felt safe.
