Molly I stand in front of Amber’s apartment and press the bell. “I’m coming,” she calls from inside. A second later I hear her voice again, closer now. “Who am I looking at… Molly?” The door swings open and Amber is standing there in a sleek nightgown, her hair wrapped in a scarf like she just stepped out of the shower. The moment she sees me, her face lights up for a second before it crumples. I force a small smile. “Surprise.” Her expression softens instantly and then she pulls me into a tight hug. “My baby… it must have been so f*****g hard,” she mutters, squeezing me like she’s trying to hold me together.
