Charles I scan the stretch of land again, for what feels like the hundredth time. Red Hollow lies quiet in front of me, vast and deceptively peaceful. Frost clings to the edges of the dry grass, the trees standing tall and bare. This land has history soaked into it, blood and legacy and greed buried beneath the soil. Sandra said to meet her here. An hour ago. I know exactly what she’s doing. Power games. Making me wait so she can feel like the one in control. Like she isn’t desperate. Like she isn’t about to lose everything she thinks she deserves. I let out a short laugh and shake my head. Amateurs always think silence makes them intimidating. I should be with Molly right now.
