7Early in the morning, we followed Lama on a path above the village, until we were looking down at the corrugated roofs. Beneath our feet, rocks shimmered in the sunlight. I was short of breath and my head still throbbed, as my body tried to adjust. But the smell of fresh air was sublimely sweet and in the morning light, the mountains surrounding us were awe-inspiring. The closer ones were covered in rich greenery and behind them were taller dark-blue mountains, glistening with white snow icing, their sharp peaks reaching for the sky. I wondered just how high we could climb. Time went by and though I was still haunted by Skye’s words, the silence was somewhat comforting.
