Claire's POV
"Doc, there is someone in the lobby requesting to see you urgently."
I turned around to snap at Heather with a raised brow. "A patient?"
She shook her head in disagreement but there was this sense of urgency written over her face.
"Then forget about it, the person can wait." I said nonchalantly, my eyes scanning through the file lying carelessly on my desk.
I expected Heather to return back to her duty but surprisingly she stood still.
"Is there a problem?" I shifted my gaze from the file to her.
Heather rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly. "The thing is...." She trailed off. "It is a man and he claims to be your husband?"
Husband?
My eyes widened in shock. Who could that possibly be?
"He said Alpha and husband."
I immediately flew off my seat at the mention of the word "Alpha"
It was something i had not heard in years.
I stormed out of my office and rushed to the lobby, my heart racing extremely fast in fear.
My chest tightened as I stepped into the lobby, my eyes landed on him immediately.
And everything came crashing back.
The rain, the rejection, the words.
Parasite.
My breath hitched.
No, no, no, no!
“Yo-u.” I was speechless.
He turned and the moment our eyes met, My head exploded with memories, terrible memories.
“Get out." My voice was low and trembling.
“Claire—” He tried to take a step forward but I yelled. “Don’t.”
I took a step back, my entire body trembling from pure and burning rage.
I never prepared for a day like this.
“I want you out now!" My voice was breaking and I could feel tears forming in my eyes.
"Claire, I did not come here to—”
“I do not care why you came!” I snapped.
People were starting to stare, I could hear whispers echoing around us but I did not care.
Nothing else mattered, Not this place,
Nor these people. Just him.
Something flickered in his eyes.
It looked like regret.
I refused to believe that.
“I want you out of here! Never return!" The tears were rolling down my cheeks. I could not control the pain I was feeling deep inside.
Kael's gaze shifted past me. I traced his gaze and I was surprised to see Ava and Asher sitting in the lobby.
They look confused.
“Don't you dare look at them,” I said sharply, stepping into the line of his sight.
“They are mine.” His tone was calm and certain.
“They are nothing to you!” I snapped. “You gave that up the moment you threw me away!”
My mind was racing fast and I was slowly losing control of my emotions.
“You do not get to claim them now because it is convenient for you.”
His expression hardened slightly. "This is not about convenience.”
“I do not care just get out,” I said again, my voice cold. “Before I make you."
“Claire—”
“I said get out!”
Security were drawing closer and Kael knew better than to stay. He casted one last glance at me and then at my kids before walking out of the building.
Once he was gone, Ava and Asher rushed towards me with confused looks on their faces. I knew I owed them an explanation but to be honest, I was too confused, heartbroken and tired to do any of that.
Asher understood so he remained quiet but Ava had curiosity written over her face.
I made them wait in my office until my shift was over.
Night came quietly, too quietly.
The house felt different.
Tension lingered in the air, the kids had questions and i was too tired to give answers.
After dinner, I tucked Ava into bed first, brushing her hair back gently.
"You and your brother won't be coming to the hospital for a while." I told her softly.
“Why?” she mumbled sleepily.
“Just because I said so.”
Fortunately she did not argue, she was too sleepy to do so.
Asher was already awake when I entered his room.
"Are you okay mum?" He asked, his gaze changed into one of concern.
I forced a small smile. “It’s nothing,” I said. “Go to sleep.”
Asher looked like he was about to press further when all of a sudden, the sound of glass shattering, accompanied by Ava's scream echoed loudly.
My body reacted before my mind could catch up.
“Stay back!” I shouted at Asher before rushing into Ava's room.
There were figures, dark and fast. I could sense they weren't human.
Wolves.
My heart dropped.
No, no, no.
"Ava, go to your brother!" I yelled as one of them lunged.
I moved faster, dodging the attack.
I grabbed him by the collar and slammed him into the wall.
Another came from the side and another one. The attack was coming from different sides.
It was too much for me to handle. Asher and Ava were behind me in the room, I could hear their frantic cry and it scared me.
“Do not touch them!” I screamed, my voice raw.
I felt power surge through me, unstable and dangerous. I felt it tearing through my veins as I moved, faster than I ever had before.
I rushed towards them with full adrenaline, channelling all my strength.
Just like that, one went down then two, and three.
They fell.
There was a moment of silence. My chest heaved.
It was over.
I turned to my kids. “Ava? Asher?”
They were there. Safe and unharmed.
I felt relief but then pain kicked in, worse than before..My body froze.
“No, no, no…” I whispered.
I used too much of my powers.
My vision blurred slowly, my thoughts were breaking apart.
“Not… now…” I cried out but too late, everything started slipping. Faster this time.
I slumped to the floor in defeat.
The last thing I saw was the door bursting open.
And a familiar figure rushing in.
My eyes shifted slowly to the side.
And even though my mind could not place him…
My body relaxed as I succumbed to the darkness.
