Evangeline's POV
"Evie! Get up, it's time for training".
I groaned loudly as my mother's voice rang through my room. I turned over to look through my chocolate locks that surrounded me messily, peering at my mother who was standing in my doorway looking at me sternly. I looked a lot like my mother. I had her caramel skin, her buttoned nose and full lips. She was a very beautiful woman and I hoped as I aged I would have her beauty. I sighed playfully, still taking in my mother's appearance, and got up reluctantly.
"Good morning to you too mama" I murmured whilst stretching. She smiled, walking over and kissing my forehead , pushing my hair out of my face while doing so. "Mi amor, you need to brush out this birdnest that is sitting on top of your head" she said, laughing, pulling a loc of hair and then walking back out the room. I got up and started getting ready. Today was training for the field. Every year there is different training up until your 18th birthday because, by then, you meet your mate and know your role. Since I was an alpha's daughter, it was common for us to be mated with another alpha, so my training was to prepare to be a Luna and warrior to protect my future pack. I completed the Luna training and this was my last training of fighting before I turned 18 in a couple of days. I quickly shower and throw on a pair of leggings and a sports bra, letting it hug my curves in all the right places. It was almost the start of summer. Since we were in May, it has been humid outside. I combed out the knots in my waist-length dark brown curly hair and threw it into a messy bun. As I opened my door and started to head out of the doorway, I jumped back as something narrowly missed me. I glared at my idiotic brother and his best friend, who were throwing a football around the house.
"Evie, you should watch where you're going" August, my older brother, teases me playfully as he engulfs me into a hug. He looked a lot like my father, we both had his almond eye shape with hazel-colored eyes. He was also more sun-kissed than I was and towered over me, standing at 6'0., on the other hand, was only 5'1, taking after my mother. We have always been close, even though he's two years older than me. He was like my protector, always around when I needed him, though recently, I have been feeling like our relationship has become estranged because he's been away a lot due to training to be an alpha. He was to take my father's position as he is of age. I let him embrace me for a little and then pulled back, smiling at him.
"It's good to have you home, Auggie". I said before giving him another quick hug. I turned to Lucien, my brother's best friend, as he was walking over with the football in his hand. He has been around for as long as I can remember. He also seemed protective of me since he is my brother’s best friend, but we have barely spoke words to each other so it was always awkward when he was around. He crossed his arms and nodded his head at me as in to say hello, as I pulled my hands up to my hair to fix my bun again, I smiled politely, "Lucien, nice to see you too, I didn't know you would be coming". Lucien was always very handsome, a chiseled face with dimples on both cheeks that came out whenever he talked or smiled, though he rarely did both. His creamy skin always looked perfect with no blemishes, a slit across his eyebrow and his light green eyes, that looked like the forest surrounding us. He was tall too, taller than my brother, probably about 6'4-6'5.
"I figured I would come and see your family for a bit before I went back to my pack" He said expressionless.
"Where are you headed to?" Auggie asked, looking down at me.
"Training on the fields, we're sparring today" I said as I started to head toward the stairs.
"Here, take my sweater. It might get chilly later". Lucien says abruptly, as he takes off his hoodie hastily and reaches it in my direction. I was shocked he was even talking to me, he usually just ignored my presence, and vice versa.
I grabbed the sweater from his hands, thanking him quietly with a smile and bounding down the stairs, tying it around my waist. As I was heading out the door, I saw my papa walking in from a meeting.
"Hi Papa" I said, giving him a kiss on the cheek and jogging out the door. "Hello, my Cattleya, work hard at training". He said, yelling towards me and smiling. He had been calling me Cattleya since I was young. He said it was a flower that reminded him of my beauty. I continued to make my way towards the training grounds and spotted my best friend, Rose. She had pale skin, long black hair put in two braids and big brown eyes. I walked towards her, pulling her into a quick hug before lining up like the rest and getting ready to start training.
As training came to an end, I walked towards my house with Rose. She was older than me by a few months, so she already has her wolf. " Are you excited about your birthday?" She asked, breaking the silence. I looked towards her, taking in her features, her stray hair was clinging to her forehead from sweat, face flushed and out of breath. " I am, we have been getting everything together, all that left is the outfit picking". I said looking towards her stopping for a second to breathe.
" I can do your makeup! are you excited to find out who your mate is?" she said with excitement gleaming in her eyes, I nodded.
"I hope the moon goddess gives me a good mate and a strong wolf like my parents" I said back. "The moon goddess will bless you, just like she did with me and Scarlett" she says smiling about her wolf. "How are you and Connor?" I ask teasingly. She blushes, beaming, thinking about her mate. Connor was a beta, meaning he was to be my brother's second in command. "Oh Evie, it's everything I hoped it would be. I'm so happy" she gloated as she began rambling about him as we continued our walk to my home.
