“DETECTIVE HINKS?” Bud glanced up, pulling a pair of reading glasses from his face as he did. The woman standing in front of his desk had sandy brown hair, deep-set hazel eyes, and what he assumed was a perpetually worried expression on her plain face. He guessed she was always a bit tense, based on the way her narrow shoulders rounded and her hands twisted the handle of an ugly green purse as she looked at him. “Yes.
