HE PACED THE ALLEY, his boots crunching over broken glass and other debris. The woman had been inside alone for an hour before he’d worked up the courage to consider going in after her. She was clearly protected by an evil aura and he had enough demons of his own. He didn’t need to deal with any of hers. Pain slashed through his brain and he stopped, crouching down and pressing his hands into his temples. “Stop it, stop it, stop it!” He rocked in place for a minute, willing the demon in his head to back down...give him some space.
