*Chapter 4: The Party*
Moonlight's heart was racing as she stood outside the old warehouse. She had lied to her parents, telling them she was attending a study group, and now she was nervous. What if she got caught?
Sophia appeared beside her, a reassuring smile on her face. "Hey, you made it."
Moonlight smiled back, feeling a surge of gratitude. "I wouldn't have missed it for the world."
They walked in, and Moonlight's eyes widened as she took in the scene. The warehouse was transformed – twinkling lights, pulsing music, and people dancing, laughing, and having the time of their lives.
Amalia grabbed her hand, pulling her into the crowd. "Come, Moonlight! Let's dance!"
Moonlight let go, feeling the music take over. She spun and twirled, her hair flying around her, her feet bare on the cold floor. She felt alive, free.
As they danced, Moonlight noticed a guy watching her from the sidelines. He was leaning against a pillar, his eyes fixed on her, a small smile on his face.
Sophia followed her gaze and grinned. "That's Alex," she mouthed. "He's new, but he's cool."
Moonlight's heart skipped a beat as Alex caught her eye and smiled. She looked away, feeling a flutter in her chest.
The night wore on, and Moonlight lost herself in the music and the moment. She didn't think about her parents, her responsibilities, or her duties. She was just Moonlight, a girl having the time of her life.
As the party wound down, Sophia turned to her, a mischievous glinkle in her eye. "Want to sneak out onto the roof?"
Moonlight grinned, knowing exactly what Sophia was suggesting. "Always."
They slipped out onto the roof, the cool night air a welcome respite from the heat of the party. The city lights twinkled below, and Moonlight felt like she was on top of the world.
Alex was sitting on the edge of the roof, his eyes fixed on the stars. He looked up as they approached, a smile on his face.
"Mind if I join you?"
Sophia shook her head, making room for him. "Not at all."
Moonlight's heart skipped a beat as Alex sat down beside her, their shoulders touching. She felt a spark of electricity, and knew that this night was just the beginning.
Moonlight felt a jolt of awareness as Alex settled in beside her, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he smiled. Sophia launched into a story about her latest art project, and Moonlight found herself laughing along with the others, but her attention kept drifting to Alex.
She couldn't help but sneak glances at him – the way his hair curled slightly at the nape of his neck, the way his eyes sparkled when he laughed. He seemed...different from the guys she usually met. Less polished, less perfect.
As Sophia's story came to an end, Alex turned to Moonlight, his eyes locking onto hers. "What about you?" he asked, his voice low and smooth. "What do you do?"
Moonlight felt a flutter in her chest, unsure how to answer. She couldn't exactly say she was an heiress, not when she was hiding her true life from her parents. "I'm...between things right now," she said finally, feeling a twinge of guilt.
Alex nodded, his expression understanding. "I know the feeling."
The conversation flowed easily, the four of them talking about music, books, and life. Moonlight felt like she'd known Alex forever, like they shared a secret understanding.
As the night wore on, Sophia stood up, stretching. "I think I'm calling it a night," she said, yawning.
Amalia nodded, following suit. "Me too. Moonlight, you okay getting home?"
Moonlight hesitated, not wanting the night to end. But she nodded, smiling. "Yeah, I'll be fine."
As Sophia and Amalia left, Alex turned to her, his eyes sparkling. "Want to walk with me?"
Moonlight's heart skipped a beat. "I'd love to."
They strolled through the quiet streets, the city sleeping around them. Moonlight felt a sense of peace, like she was exactly where she was meant to be.
As they walked, Alex told her about his passion for photography, about the stories he wanted to tell through his lens. Moonlight listened, enthralled, feeling a connection she'd never felt before.
The night wore on, the stars twinkling above. Moonlight knew she'd never forget this night, this feeling. She just hoped it wouldn't be the last.
