Luke spent a gut-wrenching Saturday alone in his room, replaying the conversation with Detective Cardinal over and over in his mind until the front door creaked open in the late afternoon. Footsteps moved up the staircase. He quickly turned out his desk lamp as the door to Robby’s bedroom squeaked open. Luke feared confronting his brother, but his mind screamed at him to tell the truth about the encounter with Detective Cardinal.
