Chapter 52

It's morning in Brilfaxa. Emmeline Karfis, standing in front of Aude Altieri and Anna Valsecchi while carrying her suitcase. She stood with a sad look, with a dry throat, as if she had a million words and feelings that she couldn't describe. Everything was so complex and complicated. Emmeline never expected her holiday in Brilfaxa to end like that. She had to leave with inexplicable feelings.

Corbin Valsecchi still hadn't returned home. Since leaving Emmeline wordless last night, the man had not returned. His cell phone could not be reached either. Emmeline couldn't say anything to him, even if it was just to say goodbye. This morning, Anna had escorted Emmeline to Vin's grave. A request that Mr. Piers always refused every time Emmeline asked for it, for various reasons.

Emmy looked at the sad faces of Anna and Aunt Aude. They also emitted the same sad look as Emmy.

"I really want you to stay here longer actually, Dear," Aude said. "I know something has happened and made the atmosphere in this house different. Yes, I do, I feel sad. "Miss Emmy, I'm curious as to who the person who has dared to do evil to Karfis & Vin. As a fan of Karfis & Vin, and also as someone close to you, I feel hurt," interrupted Anna. Emmy had indeed told Anna and Aude that there had been a problem at the company. Even if it's just a glimpse, because Emmy herself didn't really know what happened. Chloe was still at a loss to identify the problem. Emmeline would investigate properly once she arrived in Elderville-Bryxton.

Emmeline nodded her head faintly. "Thanks for your support, Anna. I'm not quite sure who did it either. And what a mess he made. I hope I can sort it out when I get there." Emmy looked down for a moment. She closed her eyes tightly for a moment. "Anna, when Corbin comes back, please—"

"I know," said Anna. She smiled. "I'll tell him that you're sorry you couldn't say good-bye to him, and I'll tell him the reason for your leaving. Don't worry. I'll also scold him for leaving and being unreachable. I'm sure he'll regret it later, when he finds you're no longer in this house when he returns. I didn't know that my older brother, who is usually smart, still has to be reminded of something like this," Anna spoke at length, which made Emmeline and Aude smile. Emmeline lowered her head slightly with a sudden blush on her cheeks.

Emmeline then looked back at Aude and Anna after that. She smiled, then said, "I'm leaving. See you later."

The taxi was waiting in front of the house. Emmy purposely ordered a taxi to take her to the airport, and she forbade Anna to drop her off. Emmy didn't want Anna to come with her, then Aunt Aude would have time to get lost in her grief and make things worse. Emmy had seen that morning, the old woman's face looked pale.

Emmeline once again waved at Aude and Anna as she was about to get into the taxi. It's not enough to just say goodbye to the two occupants of the house. Emmy glanced around in all directions. To every corner of the courtyard, and to the house, before finally getting in and closing the cab door. The vehicle then drove away from Corbin's house. Emmeline, took Vin's necklace with her. She held tightly to the pendant of Vin's necklace that she was holding, while looking down and closing her eyes. "Vincenzo Valsecchi," she sighed, with an indescribable feeling.

Meanwhile, in Elderville-Bryxton, at the Karfis & Vin office, Chloe Levine was in a frenzy. Several company officials came to her to ask and confirm exactly when Miss Emmeline Karfis would return. Chloe told them, "Shouldn't be long. If the journey goes well it shouldn't take long."

Chloe had just asked them all to stop asking questions and then sat in her place uneasy. She then looked at her watch and let out a weak shriek with some relief. "It's time to pick her up at the airport. Hope she gets there on time." Chloe rose from her seat. "Miss Karfis, I'll be there before you do. Don't worry," she muttered.

Time kept moving forward. Chloe was already at the airport. The time had come for Chloe, to face Emmeline again.

"Miss Karfis," Chloe bowed slightly enthusiastically.

"Come on, Chloe, let's hurry back to the office."

"Don't you want to rest first?"

"No time to rest." Emmeline had walked briskly back then. The driver opened the car door for her, while Chloe, trailing behind her carrying her suitcase.

They hurriedly made their way to Karfis & Vin's head office, wasting no time at all.

Emmy also asked about Mr. Piers when they were on the trip, and Chloe said, "Mr. Piers is still in the hospital. If he had known there was a problem at the company, then his condition would have worsened. But I didn't tell him."

Emmeline was silent for a moment. She swallowed heavily, then looked out the window.

"Hopefully he gets better soon," said Emmeline. "I want to talk to him a lot," she continued quietly.

"You said something happened at Corbin's house in Brilfaxa. What was that?"

"You'll ask about that later, Chloe. Get ready. We might be working late today."
