Chapter 2: Something To Worry About

1139 Words
GISELE'S POV Then I looked up, annoyance already settling on my face and I froze. ‎Our eyes met. ‎His eyes glowed. ‎Not just bright but warm, like my favorite golden rose sitting under the sun. For a brief second, something in me paused… before I forced the feeling down. ‎His hair was Gold, soft like coffee mixed with enough milk. ‎His features weren’t bad at all. ‎If anything… they were almost perfect. ‎If he didn’t carry that unmistakable arrogance around him, he would have easily been a ten out of ten. ‎We stared at each other for a while. ‎Then he smirked. ‎“I heard you don’t talk.” ‎Before I could react, he leaned closer. ‎Too close. ‎My body stiffened instantly. ‎His breath brushed against my ear, warm and deliberate. ‎“I guess you could scream my name,” he whispered. ‎Disgust hit me immediately. ‎Sharp. Instant. ‎Without thinking, I shrugged him off and stepped forward, ‎right onto his foot. ‎Hard. ‎I felt the impact clearly through my sole. ‎I kept walking without looking back. ‎A small sense of satisfaction settled in my chest. ‎I wasn’t going to let anyone make me look weak. ‎Not on my first day. ‎Not here. ‎From somewhere behind me, a voice rang out. ‎“Oh, the new girl, huh? Let’s see how this goes.” ‎I didn’t turn. ‎I didn’t need to. ‎Perfect. ‎A new enemy already. ‎Damn it. ‎I continued toward the headmaster’s office, but everything inside me was anything but calm. ‎My thoughts were scattered. ‎My snakes stirred restlessly beneath the scarf. ‎My heart beat faster than it should. ‎My hands trembled slightly as I tightened my grip on my backpack. ‎Who is he? ‎Why is my pulse reacting like this? ‎And what exactly does he want from me? ‎None of it made sense. ‎But one thing did. ‎I couldn’t afford to lose control. ‎Not here. ‎Not on my first day. ‎Nocturna had its own rules. ‎And so did I. ‎Rule one: never speak. ‎Rule two: never lose control. ‎Rule three: never trust anyone. ‎I slowed slightly. ‎That hadn’t been part of the plan. ‎Then I exhaled quietly. ‎Rule four: stay away from him. ‎Because something about him wasn’t right. ‎He didn’t look at me the way the others did. ‎There had been arrogance in his voice…but not in his eyes. ‎His eyes held something else. ‎Something deeper. ‎Curiosity. ‎Dangerous curiosity. ‎Like he was trying to see past everything I was hiding. ‎Like he wanted to understand me. ‎And that! ‎That was something I could never allow. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎I headed to the headmaster's office in the Admin building. ‎His office smelled like old parchments and ozone. ‎Ahh... now I could tell where the stench I perceived a while ago came from. ‎He turned from the window . ‎He stood tall and his height was quite intimidating . ‎ ‎His frost hair and sharp eyes was every gorgon's dream. ‎ ‎ ‎“Miss Veridian. Your records from Moonshadow are… quite ... sparse I'd say.” He said. ‎ ‎I handed him my forged papers. ‎ ‎“Selective mutism, as a result of trauma. So it's a trauma response.” he read aloud. His lifted his gaze as if trying to see through me. “And the serpents?” ‎ ‎I let the head warmer shift a little and one of my snakes, shifted beneath. He didn’t flinch. ‎ ‎“You’ll be in Gorgon House and a professor will be assigned to you as your advisor. He specializes in area of powers of rare bloodlines.” ‎He paused , like he was trying to make me comfortable a little. ‎"We know why you're really here, Giselle. Your guardians pleaded for this transfer to keep you safe since MoonShadow closed down for some time and every surviving student has to start from freshman. Do well not to make them regret it". ‎ ‎ ‎I nodded once, a cold shiver spreading through my veins . I thought he knew what had happened there. ‎ ‎I stood up, my legs shaking from being too stiff. We sat and talked for some time before I left the office. ‎The courtyard was more quieter this time as everyone seems to have gone to class. I headed to the gorgon house. ‎The gorgon house lived up to it's name. Beautiful and elegant. When I breathe a little hard, I could smell the pride that surrounds the building. ‎While I was about to enter he came up to me again. This time I got a good look at him. ‎ ‎He was a strikingly handsome, tall guy with golden hair and glowing amber eyes. A werewolf. Not just any werewolf, but an Alpha. Confidence and arrogance surrounded him like a fog. ‎ ‎“I was talking to you,” he said, with an obvious smirk on his lips. ‎ ‎I stared intensely at him letting the silence thicken for a moment. ‎ ‎His smirk widened. “ I Heard you don’t talk. Is that true?” ‎ ‎One of his pack chuckled. “Maybe she’s shy, Ben.” ‎ ‎Ben. Benjamin. I filed the name away. ‎ ‎His gaze traced through my head warmer, my hood, my gloves ‎For a brief moment, something changed in his eyes. It was not mockery but curiosity. ‎“You’re interesting,” he said, his voice softer. “ And guess what,I like interesting.” ‎I didn’t react. ‎He let go of my arm and stepped back. “See you around, silent girl.” ‎I turned and walked into the building, and I was aware he was still looking at my back until I disappeared around the corner close to the steps. ‎On getting to my room, I discovered I have a roommate. I didn't pay her any attention. Just unpack my bag and arrange my books because my side of the room was already arranged to my preferences as filled out during my clearance. ‎ ‎I kept thinking about him and how he's becoming a problem to me and for some reason he looks like someone I know but I couldn't place the exact person it is. ‎But that shouldn't be my problem for now. I need to figure who I am. ‎ ‎
