CHAPTER FOUR

Linda's POV “No dad! I can't! I can't marry that brat!” I yelled. At the same time sniffing the tear that was threatening to fall. “I don't get it. You can't choose someone and expect me to marry that person just because you and the “powerful” Williams said so” I added still yelling. “Linda, your father is only trying to clean up your…” Rachel was saying but I cut her off. “Please! My father and I are talking, and you ain't got no right to interfere” I said glaring at her, not interested in the pretense ready to come. “That's no way to talk to my wife, your mum” My dad said more like I expected. “Whatever dad. See, I'm not a child or a push over. I'm 28 and I can clean my s**t myself” I said agitatedly. “You should be grateful the Kingston brought the proposal themselves just to save both families’ reputation” Dad said now getting up from the sofa. “Okay. So, I'm the sacrificial lamb?” I didn't even expect an answer. I just wanted to wake up from this whole dream. My dad stepped a bit closer to me and held my hands in his hands, looking up to the chandelier right above him and back at me. “Linda, although I was expelled by mum, however, you and all of us are still members of the Williams family. A bad Williams is all bad Williams. That's what mum always says” He said then pursed. “The mother that I know will never forgive anyone that ruins the reputation or the name, Williams. So, you have no choice, just follow the instructions” he added. I was shattered, I wasn't even allowed to pick my life partner. I wasn't going to succumb to any threat whatsoever. “All my life dad, all my life I have always done what you wanted. Even when you were manipulated by Rachel and Ivry, I still did not disobey you. Just for me to pick my spouse myself, you all don't want it” I said as tears filled my eyes threatening to fall. “Dad, I don't care what anybody thinks or says, I'm not getting married to that brat” I removed his hands from mine, wiped the the outpouring lake on my face with the back of my hands, then walked away. I entered my room and just laid on the bed. I looked around my room surveying the place. The deep blue color of the walls of my room that always brought peace to my miserable soul now seems incapable too. I sat on the floor close to my bed and sobbed bitterly to the point where tears refused to come. I was fed up with everything and I didn't know what to do. I was still on the floor lying emotionlessly when my phone rang. It was Cynthia. “Hey, Lin!” I heard her speak from the other end. “Babe, are you there?” She further asked when she didn't hear me respond. “Hey” I answered weakly. “Are you okay? You haven't been picking my calls since yesterday” She continued. “I just wanted to know if you're still alive” she pressed. “Mr. Kingston called my granny” I said to her. “What! Why? What did they say? What's going to happen” she screamed from the other end. “He wants to marry me and they already concluded on it” I said as the words itself chocked me. I grabbed my bottle from the table and sippied water from it angrily. “So, what are you going to do?” She asked. “You know that a stupid question to ask. I ain't going to marry that brat” I said affirmatively. “Maybe I'll just run away” I spat. “I doubt you'll survive after 24hours because the two families will fuc**ng track you down” The way she said it sent chills down my spine. My granny can be crazy, same as Liam and his family. “Was that actually you in the video” Cynthia asked. “My twin. Wait, you don't believe me?” I said disappointed that my only friend thought I could intentionally ruin my own life. “You were drunk you know” She further said chuckling. “Wow! Wow! Lin! Switch on your TV” she surprisingly exclaimed. “Why?” “Just switch it up already!” She yelled. I picked the remote control to my television from my bed side table just to see what's going on. The first station was the celebrity news channel which it's contents caught my eyes. The great Liam Kingston was surrounded by different groups of the media crew, throwing different questions at him at a time. Well, he looked like he was super ready to answer all of their questions just by seeing how confident he looked. His bodyguards were trying to pull them from him but he cautioned them by saying something to the head’s ear. “I don't know how our clips went viral. Someone somewhere wants to tarnish myself and my fianceè’s image” Liam said to them. His fianceè? Me! “This man has finally gone crazy Cynthia” I said to my phone fixing my gaze to the TV. “You said your fianceè? Mr Kingston, are you referring to Miss Williams?” One of the reporters asked. “Are you both engaged?” Another asked. “When did you get engaged? Sir, since when have you been together” Another asked. “Sir, the world thinks you are just a rich spoilt brat and irresponsible. Are you aware of that” One of them pressured. “Mr. Kingston, some said Miss. Williams is just like one of your prostitutes, is that true?” Another asked. Everyone kept asking questions at the same time causing the whole place to be rowdy, which, ceased as soon as Liam began talking again. I was starting to burn with anger, my blood vessels were threatening to burst due to the temperature of my blood. Tell me why he told them we are engaged in the first place. “I'm sorry if my fianceè and I caused an uproar. We wanted to make it private until the wedding but it's out one way or the other” Liam said to them. “Linda is going to be my wife soon” He added then gave a straight eye shot at the camera. He then walked away after the bodyguards pushed through. The eye shot sent shivers to my spine as it looked like he was sending a message to me. “Oh my dear Mrs. Kingston” Cynthia said jokingly at the other end of the call jerking me back from my world of thoughts. “Don’t dare!” I said to her with an ‘I'm not jocking’ tone. We bid our farewell and I hung up. I looked over the window but spotted my mum's framed photo on my table. I walked over to pick it and came back to my former position. I held the photo tightly, pressing it against my chest as we go another round of weeping and wailing. “Why did you leave me mum?” “Things wouldn't have turned out this way if you were here mum” I continued. “How do I get out of this mess?” “Or should I just end this miserable life?” I was now laying on the floor facing the ceiling with the picture still folded with my hands on my chest as tears continued to fall uncontrollably. I got out of my room after the moment of tears to cheer up myself but as I began approaching the living room I heard my dad and Rachel having a conversation. I stopped in my track to hear what they were saying. “She's still in her room sobbing her life out. Don't you think we need to send her out at this point?” Rachel said silently. “She's still my daughter, woman” my dad said as if he was in some kind of pain. “Ohh, so you don't care about us. You want us to suffer right!” She pressed. “Why didn't you tell her that the only inheritance your dad left you. The money we’ve been surviving on is now freezed by her grandma because of her mistake!” She continued. “So, how do you expect us to live and you know no one will employ you. Not under your mother's watch” she said and started crying. That was the first time it looked like she was genuinely crying. The tears that I thought I had exhausted started to fall again. I started feeling like I was selfish. I will never intentionally put my father in pain. I was about to move back when the standing vase beside me fell to the floor, shattering everywhere. The noise attracted their attention and Rachel stood up looking angry like ever. She came towards me. “You selfish brat!” She spat at me and walked away. I looked at the broken vase on the floor and it looked exactly like my life, then looked at my dad who was ashamed to look at me. “Dad, I'm sorry for everything. I will marry L-i-a-m and make things w-o-r-k” The words were hard to say but I had to. For my father. I ran back to my room and jumped on my bed. I was about to begin another moment with myself when I saw a message pop up on my phone from an unknown number. I picked it up to read the contents and it stated: “You need to get to my office now! The private investigator, who's in charge of the recent losses that we've exp erienced in the last two months, which amounted to twenty million dollars, just declared that all indication points towards you as a major suspect”
