Chapter Two - The new friend

1663 Words
Pushing her way through the crowded hallways, Skylar battled over to her locker, pressing against it as she tried to put in her locker combination as the weight of students rushed past her. Finally getting the door to open, she pulled it wide and shoved her text books on to the shelf before slamming it shut again and hurrying off to her first lesson. Dropping into her seat, Skylar pulled a book out of her bag and buried her head into her story, tuning out the chatter that was happening around her as the chairs in the room filled up. ‘Did you hear? The Alpha took the bus this morning’ came a whispered voice in front of her. Peeking up over the top of her book, Skylar pretended to be engrossed as she tuned her hearing in on the conversation going on between the two she wolves in front of her. ‘Yep, people are saying he might have found his Luna’ a blonde haired girl replied, tossing her hair over her shoulder. ‘I wouldn’t want to be that girl when the fab four find out!’ ‘If she was on the bus she has to be under age and Jackson isn’t sixteen for another three months, surely they wouldn’t have felt each other yet’ her friend replied. ‘Doesn’t matter, everyone knows that Scarlett has had her eye on the Luna position since they were twelve, she’s even got Jackson’s own sister routing for her’ the blonde replied. The sound of the chair next to her being pulled out drew Skylar’s attention, looking up she smiled as the tall slim form of her red headed, freckled best friend fell into the seat beside her, a scowl on her face as she dragged her books from her bag. ‘Oh no, I know that look, what did they do?’ Skylar asked as she fought with the smile trying to creep over her face, taking in her friends jeans and roll necked long sleeved jumper that did not suit the warm weather. ‘Red food dye’ Alexandra huffed annoyed, ‘in the damn shower head! My torso looks like I've been rolling in a strawberry patch! I am going to kill them, no, I'm going to t*****e them all extensively, then almost kill them, then revive them, then t*****e them again and THEN bury each one of them alive in a shallow grave’ she growled as Skylar snorted. ‘You know you love them really’ the Omega chuckled as Alexandra growled. ‘No, I tolerate them all, grudgingly! You are sooooo lucky you don’t have younger brothers’ she groaned, ‘how did I get saddled with three of the little blighters! My parents obviously hate me’ she grumbled in annoyance. ‘At least you didn’t put your head under the water before you noticed’ Skylar offered consolingly. ‘Do you know how long it took me to get that damn dye out of the shower head so I could wash my hair this morning? Roll on my sixteenth so I can finally move to the damn pack house and away from those little hoodlums’ the red head muttered, crossing her arms across her chest. ‘At least one of us is looking forward to moving to the pack house’ Skylar mumbled as she put her book back in her bag and pulled out her own exercise book. Their conversation was interrupted by their teacher entering the room, the large grey haired werewolf, growled loudly, the noise rumbling around the walls as the entire class room fell silent immediately, all eyes forward. ‘Better’ the teacher grumbled as he placed his briefcase on the desk. Picking up a white board pen, he turned his back on the class as he began to write in large letters. ‘My name is Professor Clark, not Superman, not Clarky, not Clark the spark, not even Mr Kent, Professor Clark.’ he growled as the class watched him. ‘I am the new physics teacher’ he added as he turned back to face them. He slowly swept the room, meeting each of their eyes with his own penetrating glare, some of the lower ranking wolves dropping their gaze when he glowered at them. ‘Anyone who thinks they are humorous, understand that I am not, I have no sense of humour at all, which means that anyone who tries to force their humour upon me will be very very sorry, do we all understand?’ he asked, his tone clipped. ‘Yes Professor’ came the reply, students sharing looks as the grumpy adult pulled out his lesson plan and had them all turn to page seven. ‘Read the chapter, answer the questions, don’t talk’ the Professor rumbled before lowering himself into his chair and proceeding to ignore them. Sneaking a glance at her best friend, Skylar saw the red head staring open mouthed at the new teacher. Nudging her sharply, she drew Alexandra’s attention, nodding at her text book as the she wolf mouthed, ‘what is his problem’ before bending over her book and beginning her work. Working silently, no-one looked up until the bell sounded, pushing back our chairs, we all started to pack our bags as Professor Clark picked up his suitcase and strode out of the room without a backwards glance. ‘Well he is just a little ray of sunshine, can’t wait for a full year of his sunny disposition teaching us’ Alexandra muttered scathingly as the pair threw our bags over their shoulders and joined the throng heading out of the classroom. Saying their goodbyes, Alexandra heading toward history, Skylar to the maths block, keeping her head down as she entered the classroom and headed to the back, away from her class mates. Sitting down, she rummaged in her bag as she heard the chair next to her scratch across the cheap carpet. Looking up, she raised her eyebrow at the smiling face of Jackson who sat down next to her, placing his bag on the table as he started to pull out his things. ‘Umm, you seem to be lost, the jocks and airheads sit over there’ Skylar muttered, pointing to the middle of the class where Jackson’s friends were staring at the pair open mouthed. ‘I’m sitting here today with my new friend’ Jackson replied with a shrug as he placed his bag under the desk and leaned back, swinging on the back to legs as he grinned at the she wolf. ‘You are really proving my point that you are an i***t’ Skylar groaned as she looked down at her bag and pulled out her exercise book and a pen. ‘i***t? For wanting to sit with my newest friend and get to know her?’ Jackson asked, a playful smile pulling at the edges of his lips. ‘What if I don’t want to get to know you?’ Skylar countered huffily. ‘Everyone wants to get to know me babe, I'm the next Alpha’ Jackson reminded her, his smirk widening. ‘You are such an arrogant a*s, aren’t you’ the Omega growled as Jackson let out a warm chuckle. ‘Confident Sky, I'm confident not arrogant’ Jackson replied shaking his index finger side to side in front of her face. ‘We are on nickname terms already?’ Skylar asked, staring at the smooth Alpha who nodded. ‘Of course, you are Sky and I am Jack’ he replied happily, swinging the chair back onto it’s four legs again. ‘Jackson!’ came a reedy voice from in front of them, looking up the pair were met with the underdressed queen bee of the school, Scarlett, who was looking at the Alpha with a sickly sweet smile. ‘What are you doing back here, why don’t you come sit with us, I saved you a seat next to me’ she added as she leaned forward over Jackson’s desk, her assets almost spilling out of the tight pink knitted crop top she was wearing. ‘Yeah Jackson, why don’t you go sit with your girlfriend here’ Skylar agreed giving him a huge smile. Jackson flinched slightly, his eyes hardening as he replied, ‘I don’t have a girlfriend’ turning back to Scarlett who’s face had fallen at his words, he added, ‘I am quite happy sat here with Skylar, so you go on back to your seat without me.’ Though his words were light, there was an edge to his voice that sent the she wolf running back to the group of jocks and cheerleaders, all of them putting their heads together and whispering fiercely, sending daggered looks back at the Omega every so often. Sighing, Skylar looked at the Alpha who had become withdrawn, ‘did yo have to paint such a big target on my back Jackson?’ she asked wearily. ‘Jack’ the Alpha mumbled. ‘Huh?’ Skylar replied confused. ‘Call me Jack’ he repeated, his eyes slightly pained. ‘Fine, Jack, did you have to paint such a huge target on my back? Happy now?’ she added with a scowl. Cheering up Jackson nodded, ‘very, and I didn’t paint a target, I can be friends with whoever I want, if they don’t like it, they know where the boundary is’ he said, a slight edge to his tone before he smiled and reached forward to open his books as the teacher entered.
