Chapter 5 - The Vault

1819 Words
Lily had been shaking and sobbing so hard into her pillow she didn’t even hear the thud of boots up the stairs. When she felt a hand on her shoulder she anticipated it to be Snapper, sent to take her out and somehow make up for Apollo letting her down yet again. Abruptly she was pulled to her feet, turning her head to shout out at Apollo’s Beta she was shocked to see two gruff broad men before everything went black. The young she wolf came back around a short while later, she was being carried gently bridal style down some dark stairs into the pitch pitch black, the light above her getting smaller and smaller, taking a sniff she realized it was Snapper carrying her, he had removed the hood from her head and taken off the silver handcuffs, although her wrists were still sore and burnt. “God please forgive me for what I am about to do.” He sighed heavily and walked as though the entire world weighed upon his shoulders. Lula was screaming at Lily in her head “Get up fight, fight him! This is what we have trained for our entire lives FIGHT!” Lily rubbed her forehead, her heart ached from the pain of betrayal from her mate, her head pounded from her angry wolf, her wrists burning in pain and her blood felt as though it was on fire, her muscles weak. Wolfs bane must have also been part of the strategy to remove her from her home. Not that she would have fought back anyway her heart felt like it had died. “There is nothing to fight for anymore Lula, leave me alone.” Lily closed her eyes and felt her head roll back again, until she was laid on a hard stone floor, footsteps moved away and the gate was pulled closed with a long rusty creak, the key turned. Lily realized she was in the Vault. Rumor of the vault ran rife through the pack, although no one knew for sure if it existed or not. It was a place of torture and imprisonment for traitors and vampires. What on earth Lily was doing here she had no idea. Her body was slowly healing and regaining its strength, it must have been a huge quantity as white wolves heal faster and far easier than even regular werewolves and yet even now the following day her head still banged like she had a hangover from hell. Shivering from the cold huddled into a small ball in the corner of her cell the only company Lily had was her wolf crying and whimpering in pain in her head. Hours went by and nothing not a sound. All of a sudden Lily heard voices, she strained her ears to hear more, it was Apollo and he was arguing with someone or even several people. “She must be killed, what she did was unforgivable she cannot be trusted.” He was angry and stern, “You have no proof it was her that did this, there may be an explanation” Lily could make out Snapper and he sounded exhausted, “besides whether you like it or not she is still your mate, in killing her you would also be killing a part of yourself.” The realization hit Lily like a fist to the face, it was her the Alpha, her mate was planning on murdering. Apollo answered his Beta gruffly “I’ve killed a mate before and survived, I will be fine.” Then there was a smaller quieter voice speaking now but she could make it out, pushing her ears further out of the cell bars and straining even harder “ …there are other ways of removing the problem. Besides white wolves are believed to be extinct, imagine what she would fetch at the black auction, every supernatural in the world would come to see her, her coat her healing blood its all priceless.” Hecate was speaking to the men, Snapper interrupted “ Sir no you cannot even contemplate this, she would be treated as a slave, raped and god knows what , she may be bought by some dirty vampire as a torture play thing for the rest of her life, she is still your mate” . “Precisely Snapped MY MATE! And I shall do what I please with her and what I feel is a suitable punishment. LEAVE.” The Alpha gave his orders and a door slammed, boots hit heavily up the corridor, through a crack in the wall opposite Lily caught a glimpse of Snapper, their eyes met. Lily could instantly feel the regret and sadness in his eyes.     Lilys POV Sitting there blinking tears from my eyes I was trying to absorb everything that treacherous bastard of a mate of mine had just planned. “Something isn’t right Lil’s, that sneaky witch of a sister of his has twisted something, our mate wouldn’t do this to us for no reason.” Lula couldn’t face what Elijah was allowing Apollo to do to us.  “He is our mate he is supposed to know us and trust us and believe in us. He is so weak he will not even stand up against his sister for us, what type of coward is that and how can you even want that as our mate” I was sounding bitter, but it was hard not to. Here I was sat on a cold hard floor of a dungeon waiting to be sold off like cattle at a market. I just prayed my mother was OK. This would be killing her she was so overprotective so over worried about me, I should have listened I should have kept my guard up, what was I thinking. An old voice from the cell next to me spoke “Keep your chin up girl, I know your stronger that this.” I knew that voice, I knew it but I couldn’t place from where I knew it. I tried to smell but my noise just filled with the smell of despair, torture and blood. I had to make a plan I had to get away from here and from him, how could the moon goddess have ever paired me with this monster. How did it slipped past me that he had had another mate before, and one he had killed himself, the thought send shivers down my spine, the fact he had survived the pain and anguish that comes with the death of your mate made him even more of a monster.   The next week went past me quickly, I trained constantly in that tiny cell, I had to keep my strength up if I was ever going to escape this ordeal. My senses are already better than the average wolf because of the bloodline I come from but training in the dark was giving me even sharper quicker and more reactive hearing and smell, even with this though I missed the dart of wolfs bane as it hit my neck. I was quicker than the silver chain that whipped past my face, I smelt it pure silver that would be painful and deadly. It hit the floor before being drawn up ready to come down at me again, I blacked out.   Snappers POV   “Put that down, she is a lady and for the time being still our Luna, she is out cold from the wolfs bane the silver whip is unnecessary.” I barked at the guard standing above our princess. The warriors and guards were all restless and extra cruel at the moment from Apollo’s own orders. Over night he had grown cold and cruel again. God knows what he was going to become once whoever purchased Lily was putting her through her paces. If your mate is in pain you feel it and nothing can break this bond. It was why he was so irritated this past week, Lily had completely blocked him out, he may not have been in the dungeon himself but without her he was locked in as constant a state of despair and sadness as she was. I bend to my knees and brush her hair away from her face, her clear young smooth perfect face looked peaceful and beautiful as ever. I kissed the top of her head, how could he be blessed with such a perfect mate and treat her this way? How could he not see what everyone else saw of his own sister. His entire life she had taken away anything that became important to him, she had used tricks and manipulated him to remain the only and most important woman in his life. She was his sister, sure it may have given her the power and the ear of the Alpha but he was her brother and was living a lonely and empty life, and she didn’t have a care or regret about anything she had done. As kids growing up she was forever telling tales on them, she never had any friends and zero social skills. I racked my brain there had to be a way to fix this.   I placed her in alone the back seats of the car and jumped in the driving seat with Jonathan, my right hand man. He knew what I thought of the whole situation and he didn’t disagree with me either, but like me he couldn’t see a way to put this right. If anyone tried to go against Hecate they would have their head removed from their bodies. Even I, his lifelong Beta couldn’t say that I thought I would need proof. Proof that somehow Hecate had hurt her own child in order to remove Lily from the Alphas life. I was certain Hecate had plotted against our first Luna too. Bless her soul. I put the 4x4 into first gear and we pulled away. Next stop the meat market also known as the Black Market. We had left the pack around 10 miles ago but was still winding our way through the roads of the mountains. The Alpha was ahead, he hadn’t so much as looked at her since Lily's arrest. I knew he was scared, the sight of her and her scent was cause him to doubt himself. Doubt the orders he had given. It was too late now he had put it out there for the world to know (and bid on if they wanted to ) that this little wolf I had in the back was a pure white wolf. If he didn’t go through with the auction we would have the whole supernatural world on our backs.
