The next morning felt different. No one was watching her anymore and she felt the moment she stepped out for school. But then,when Layla stepped into the school gates. She equally noticed that something else was different. Whispers started immediately,not loud,not obvious but noticeable enough that she felt them like tiny needles pricking the back of her neck.
She slowed slightly and two girls near the fountain stopped talking when she passed.
A group of boys sitting on the stairs looked at her and murmured something to each other.
One of them smirked.
Layla frowned.
“Okay… that’s weird.”
Beside her, Chloe noticed it too.
“Why is everyone staring?”
Layla shrugged.
“I don’t know.”
They walked toward the main building, but the atmosphere only got stranger.
