My suspicions were correct. Gabriel informed me that it was nearly a ten hour drive. The hours seemed to drone on in the Jeep, time blurring together as we passed endless plains. The mountains had receded into the distance after a couple of hours and there was nothing to look at but green flatland. Gabriel, as usual, was curt and only gave one word answers to everything, the very few times I asked a question. Overall, I tried to speak as little as possible, and when I did my tone was nearly as clipped as his. Once we were far enough away from the towering peaks I turned on the radio, scanning through the stations until I found one that played classical, figuring Gabriel wouldn't mind that sort of music.
