As the days went by, Charlotte couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. Williams had been acting strange, distant, and preoccupied.
At first, Charlotte had brushed it off as stress from work or exhaustion, but as the days turned into weeks, she couldn't ignore the nagging feeling in her gut.
One day, as she was cleaning the house, Charlotte stumbled upon a receipt from a local hotel. Her heart sank as she saw the date and time - it was the same day and time Williams had told her he was working late.
Charlotte felt like she had been punched in the gut. She couldn't breathe, couldn't think. All she could do was stand there, frozen in shock and disbelief.
As the reality of the situation sunk in, Charlotte felt a wave of emotions wash over her. She was angry, hurt, and betrayed. How could Williams do this to her?
She thought back to all the times he had told her he loved her, all the times he had promised to be faithful. It had all been a lie.
Charlotte felt like she was living in a nightmare. She didn't know what to do, where to turn. All she knew was that she had to confront Williams.
She waited until he came home from work, her heart racing with anticipation and fear. When he walked in the door, Charlotte was ready.
"Where were you on Friday night?" she asked, her voice shaking with emotion.
Williams looked taken aback, but he quickly regained his composure. "I was working late," he said, his voice smooth and convincing.
But Charlotte wasn't buying it. She had seen the receipt, and she knew the truth.
"Don't lie to me," she said, her voice rising. "I know you were at the hotel. Who were you with?"
Williams sighed, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "I'm sorry, Charlotte," he said. "I was with someone else."
Charlotte felt like she had been punched in the gut all over again. She couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"Why?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Williams shook his head. "I don't know," he said. "I was weak, and I made a mistake."
Charlotte felt a wave of anger wash over her. How could Williams do this to her? Didn't he love her?
As the reality of the situation sunk in, Charlotte knew that she had to make a decision. She could either forgive Williams and try to work through their issues, or she could leave him and start a new life.
Either way, Charlotte knew that she would never be the same again.
