I immediately tried the door handle, but it was locked. Child safety locks. I was trapped.
"Where are you taking me?" I demanded as Connor started driving.
Lucius stared straight ahead, his jaw clenched tight. "You'll find out soon enough."
I beat my fist against the window, but only hurt myself. The pain made tears spring to my eyes, but I refused to let them fall.
The car drove out of the city, the buildings giving way to countryside, then forest. We turned onto a private road that wound uphill through dense trees.
"You can't keep me prisoner," I said, my voice trembling with anger and fear. "People will look for me."
