“And what did the council finally decide?” Cade asked his father as he took a seat.
Everyone leaned in. We had spent tense hours waiting for this decision.
“The investigation has begun,” Alpha Wallace informed us. “But the duel cannot take place until Dawson’s guilt is confirmed.”
My father exhaled, nodding as if he had expected nothing less. “I figured they’d say something like that. The council wouldn’t want to condemn Dawson based on mere allegations.”
Cade shifted impatiently, frustration etched across his face. Like all of us, he wanted Dawson punished immediately.
My father waved a dismissive hand. “But no matter. One way or another, Dawson is going down. At the hearing, I will present all the evidence I have. There’s no way he’ll be able to squirm his way out of this.”
