"how the heck did you get in here?" Alexander exclaimed, a bewildered expression plastered across his face.
Hailey stood there in stunned silence, her eyes wide with surprise as she gazed at him. "Are you deaf or are you deliberately ignoring me?" he snapped angrily.
"Are you seriously following me?" Hailey blurted out, with a hint of surprise and suspicion. This was the third time she had encountered him in just two days, and it was starting to raise some suspicions in her mind.
"Well, we can discuss that on our way," Alexander stated, stepping into the car and motioning for Kennel to start driving. Hailey, realizing what he was trying to do, swiftly reached for the door handle on the opposite side of the car. But, Alexander beat her to it, pressing the central lock button, and securing all the doors.
"Are you seriously trying to kidnap me?" Hailey exclaimed, her voice laced with a mix of shock and indignation.
"I don't think that would be the case since You are the one that broke into the car" Alexander replied sarcastically
"It's not called breaking in when your car is unlocked," she retorted, her fingers forcefully tucking the two curly strands of hair behind her ear.
"Tell that to the cops, do you know breaking into someone's property is a serious offense? But don't worry, I don't have time to waste on your bankrupt ass," he scoffed, his gaze fixed on the car mirror as he adjusted his tie.
Hailey's eyes narrowed into slits, her entire body tensing up. She locked her gaze onto him as if trying to pierce into his soul. "You know what? I'm so damn tired of men like you! Men like Damon Green, who were born with a silver spoon in their mouths, think they're better than everyone else. Strip away their wealth, and you realize they're nothing but worthless pieces of s**t!" Her words dripped with resentment
Those words pierced into Alexander like a bee's sting, causing his eyes to turn cold as he tightly clenched his hands into fists. No one had ever dared to speak to him in such a way before. "Kennel, stop the car," he calmly requested, and the car came to a halt in the middle of the road. He shifted his gaze towards Hailey and said, "You're right, I am above and beyond everyone. Now, get the hell out of my car."
Alexander, coming from a long line of wealth, had to work tirelessly to prove his worth to his grandfather and secure his place in the family business. Hearing this woman downgrade his hard work to being born with a silver spoon didn't sit well with him. It felt like a slap in the face, undermining all the effort he had put in to carve his path.
Hailey wasn't surprised by his reaction. Rich people don't like being told the truth, she thought to herself. She swiftly got out of the car and moved to the sidewalk, watching as the car disappeared.
She waited there for over an hour, cursing Alexander under her breath while waiting for a car to pass by. Finally, she spotted a car approaching in the distance and immediately flagged it down. The car came to a stop, and she met with a kind woman who offered to give her a lift to the hospital.
Alexander arrived at the hospital, his mind filled with worry, Earlier, he had been informed that Mr. Walker had almost suffered another heart attack. So he fixed an appointment with the doctor to discuss his grandfather's health
"Good day, doctor," Alexander greeted as he entered the doctor's office.
"Good day, Mr. Walker. Please have a seat," the doctor replied, gesturing to the chair across the table.
"Thank you," Alexander responded, settling into the chair and adjusting his tie.
"So Mr Walker I am going to be honest with you, your grandfather's condition is a bit difficult, you see the lumen of the tube ranges from mild to severe stenosis. Generally, when the degree of stenosis reaches more than seventy-five percent, stent treatment is needed, now look" he said pointing to the screen with a pen, "Your grandfather's stenosis has reached almost seventy percent. This is already a severe stenosis, Even a slight change in his mood can be life-threatening."
"Can't they perform surgery, doctor?" Alexander asked, his mood shifting completely.
The doctor pushed up his glasses, looking more stressed. "Surgery is indeed an option, but considering your grandfather's age, it could lead to serious complications."
Alexander's muscles tensed as he adjusted his tie once again. "Is there any alternative to surgery?"
"Absolutely, there is a non-surgical treatment for spinal stenosis, but that falls under the expertise of a geriatrician. Luckily, we have one of the best in this hospital," the doctor replied proudly.
"That sounds like an option worth exploring," Alexander said, feeling a sense of relief.
"Yes, I will provide you with a recommendation later," the doctor said as he proceeded to write something down on a piece of paper.
.............
"Hailey, you look absolutely stunning! What did you do with your hair?" Mrs. Parker exclaimed with excitement upon seeing her granddaughter.
"Hey, grandma," Hailey replied, sadly as she hugged her grandmother, the makeup from the engagement party still adorning her face.
"What's the matter, cupcake?" Mrs. Parker asked, gently cupping Hailey's cheeks in her hands. "Why are you all dressed up? Did you go out on a date?"
"Today was my engagement, grandma," Hailey said, choosing to ignore her grandmother's questions.
"Engagement?! With Damon? Why didn't you tell me? How did it go? Did he upset you?" her grandmother bombarded her with more questions.
"I found out that Damon has been cheating on me with Lilly," Hailey replied
"Oh, that little spoilt brat," Mrs. Parker muttered through gritted teeth. "Why didn't you tell your father?"
"I did, Ma, but he still insisted that I go through with the engagement to Damon. So, I took matters into my own hands and called it off," Hailey explained, withholding the details of what happened at the party to spare her grandmother from excessive worry.
"Wait, your dad did that?" Mrs. Parker asked, her shock evident in her voice. Since her son-in-law remarried after the passing of her daughter, he had distanced himself from her, never visiting or inquiring about her well-being during her hospital stay. But she never expected him to treat his own daughter with the same cruelty.
"He doesn't care about me, grandma. I hate him," Hailey replied, tears streaming down her cheeks.
"Don't say that, cupcake. Hate is a strong word to use for your dad. Just give him some time," Mrs. Parker advised, gently patting Hailey on the back.
Talking to her grandmother brought a sense of relief to Hailey, knowing that she had her grandmother's unwavering support. Her grandma had been there for her ever since her mother's passing, teaching her everything she needed to know as a woman. Even though her mother had passed away when she was young, she never felt the absence of a mother figure in her life.
All of a sudden, her phone rang, and she quickly answered it.
"Hello, Doctor Hailey Miller. You're needed at the office. It's an emergency," the receptionist at her ward informed her.
"Yes, I'll be there in a minute," Hailey replied, ending the call.
"Grandma, I have to go now. There's something I need to attend to," she said, giving her grandma a quick peck on the cheek.
"It's okay, cupcake. Come and see me when you're done, okay?" Mrs. Parker replied.
Hailey hurried down to her office, wondering what the emergency could be. When she arrived, she approached the receptionist and asked, "What's the emergency?"
"There's someone in your office who wants to speak with you," the receptionist replied, pointing in the direction of Hailey's office.
"How is that an emergency?" Hailey questioned, furrowing her brow.
"I was asked to tell you that it's urgent. He said he doesn't like waiting," the receptionist explained.
"Alright, thanks. I will take it from here" Hailey said as she made her way to her office, wondering who it might be that didn't like waiting.
She swung the door open, A rush of adrenaline surged through her veins, as she caught sight of the person sitting comfortably on the chair. "Not again" she muttered under her breath.
