Sérafin woke up with a start and instantly regretted it, as a wave of vertigo hit her hard and she fell back against pillows she didn't recognize. The smell of antiseptic hit her first before the smell of the Headmaster who was beaming at her when she turned to face him.
“My dear, you have definitely done it.”
Sérafin put a hand to her head and asked as she squeezed her eyes shut trying to remember, “Done what exactly?”
“Claimed the Lycan King's sons in front of the whole student body.”
Sérafin was still trying to remember what happened when her eyes snapped back to the Headmaster's.
“I'm sorry, but I did what?”
Sérafin was losing her damn mind, she had to be. Did they just say that she placed a claim on three future Lycan King's?
The Headmaster just nodded repeatedly.
“Yep and in front of their first cousin no less, you are so lucky I have a strict policy for information going through me first. I was able to talk him out of telling the Lycan King for now, but this is still technically his school. So anymore acts like this from you and I'll have no choice but to disclose your secret.”
Sérafin looked around the empty medical room with nine other beds in it, the dividing curtains hanging between them open. Luckily no one else was in here at the moment, probably on Headmaster's orders.
“Dis is just great, one minute I was in a submissive hold and da next my wolf was trying to break free.”
“You do know that she is a Lycan priestess right?”
Sérafin's eyes widened, “no, she never felt da need to share, but it makes sense, I'm one wid a lot of power.”
The Headmaster laughed, “you've been asleep a couple days and have had many visitors, I had any that seemed to mean you harm turned away but all the brothers have been by to see you. Laiken visited with another young female named Birdie, a Gamma who explained that after seeing you fight, she wanted to make sure you made a full recovery.”
“Why would she do dat?”
“Birdie is next in line to take over for professor Greenwald should she retire and is her adopted daughter through a second chance mating.”
“And da brudders?” Sérafin asked begrudgingly.
“They were never here together, and they would just come and watch over you to give me a break,” they shrugged, then continued, “ now be a dear and keep that reign of terror in check, or I'll be forced to do it myself next time.”
When Sérafin looked confused they just spoke casually.
“Blood, remember? A vampire’s strength and their weakness.”
Sérafin nodded as they went to leave, the long tailed velvet blood red jacket they wore, billowing in their wake. They always looked like they were in a fashion show.
Suddenly Laiken and the dark girl she recognized from the second day in the auditorium/gymnasium stood together in the doorway.
Laiken yelled and Sérafin instinctively closed one eye in pain and put hands to her ears grunting.
“Fin!”
Sérafin grimaced and looked at her friend with a half smile speaking sarcastically.
“You're out of bed.”
“I'm so glad you're ok Fin, Birdie came to the dorms right after class and told me everything.”
Sérafin looked at the girl who had been giddy the whole class but hadn't volunteered, she looked almost ashamed right now with her head down and the silky hair that had been long that first day was now a choppy bob.
“You aren't disgusted by us?”
Birdie looked up at that and shook her head vigorously.
“Not at all, I'm small for my position and have always been picked on but you, you're amazing. I wish I had had as big of balls as you did to face three princes.”
Sérafin shrugged the praise off, it's not like she hadn't embarrassed herself in front of hundreds.
But then Birdie dropped to her knees at the side of the bed and grabbed a hold of Sérafin's hand, “please take me as your apprentice.”
Sérafin pulled her hand back like she had just touched a hot kettle. When suddenly Laiken did the same.
“Are you crazy? Get up?” Sérafin sat up trying to pull Birdie and Laiken to their feet.
“You all are embarrassing me, I am still learning too,” Sérafin sighed loudly, “ I will help you train but you are not apprentices, just friends I'm willing to help.”
Laiken and Birdie looked at each other with the biggest grin on their faces.
Except Sérafin would use this to an advantage of helping her best friend reach her full potential.
“Laiken, I will only train wid you on one condition.”
Still smiling, she looked at Sérafin.
“Name it.”
“You must find a male to feed from or leave it up to me, but dis is non-negotiable.”
The smile left her face abruptly, while Birdie who clung to her side was giddy, jumping with excitement.
Sérafin knew Laiken hated that idea but from what she had been learning about herself lately, it was the more she tried to lock up the side of her that she was embarrassed by, the more she grew out of control. And let’s be real, meek and timid Laiken as an out of control hybrid would probably end the world. That was most definitely an apocalypse waiting to happen. Plus Sérafin could literally feel the untapped power Laiken held because of her blood affinity though it was barely tapped because her wolf didn’t like how it felt and always fought her when she used it or well had tried. So she just stayed away from it.
When Laiken was still on her knees staring while Birdie danced around the room singing about being the strongest Sérafin spoke to her best friend quietly.
“You ok?’
Laiken blinked a few times then smiled sheepishly.
“I’m good, but you sure know how to get people to listen to you already.”
“Whatever, you already know don’t you? You will never be stronger unless you do dis.”
“What about you though?” Laiken asked sarcastically, Sérafin knew her best friend and she was basically telling her, if I’m doing this, so are you.
“I’m working on it!” Sérafin huffed and put her arms above her head in defeat.
Laiken rolled her eyes and grabbed Sérafin to help her up out of the bed.
“Well come on, let’s get you back to the dorms.”
Birdie squealed and they both jumped as she rushed over to help Sérafin as well.
