“She’s always ruining my life!” Scarlet kicked a divot of sand into the air and chucked the cassette, like a frisbee, against a cactus. Melissa became hyper-focused as she slowly opened the top of the cooler. It was time to fire the proverbial shot that hopefully would be heard around the netherworld. Her fingers found the rope. She secured it with a clenched fist, narrowed her gaze at her target, and inhaled as much breath and courage as her body could hold. She charged forward like a bull and struck Scarlet’s diaphragm with her shoulder. The girl grunted as they hit the sand. “What the—” Melissa clamped a hand over the girl’s mouth and lowered her face so they were nose to nose. “Do not yell.
